This article deals with the phenomenon of rowdies in the German juvenile literature. First the most important social features of rowdies are analysed. Using two juvenile books as an example, I showed, how the era of the rowdies was reflected in the juvenile literature. In the novel Der Ring by Herbert Plate the members of the group of rowdies form the leitmotiv of the book. The critical analysis of the book is based on the statement of each protagonist. In the novel Vorstadtkrokodile by Max von der Grün the criminal activities of rowdies are only a secondary motif. The leitmotiv of the work are disability and the integration of a wheelchair user with the peer group.
