Whether and when children can apply their developing understanding of belief to persuasion was examined using picture stories tasks. Children created or selected arguments to persuade a parent. In 2 studies, 253 children (aged 4–8 years) engaged in persuasion tasks and in first and second order false-belief reasoning tasks. The belief-relevant argument increased with age. The understanding of false beliefs proved to be a predictor of the ability to refer to the cognitive perspective of others in creating and selecting a persuasive argument. The results suggest that improvements in belief reasoning in early and middle childhood may be refl ected in social interactions such as persuasion.

Despite many years of debate in psychology and education on the significant role of play in cognitive and socio-emotional development of children, educational policy and practice do not always positively react to their formulated postulates, and the role of play has been permanently marginalised. The text, based on literature review and several research findings, raises many important issues concerning the role of play in the development of the social understanding and self-regulation in young children.

The practice of mediation, which aims to voluntary and confidential communication among parties in conflict, in the presence of an impartial and neutral third person (the mediator), it becomes a universal form of extra-judicial control of complex relationships. The relationship that forms on line conflict-dialogue and dialogue-mediation is a complex crosscutting theme that aims to improve human relations by identifying the least invasive solution. The present author, in a synthetically substantive manner, reveals a multifaceted advantages of this form of conflict resolution. She also shows that this method can serve as an inspiration to non-judicial dispute resolution in the Church community – particularly in the area of marriage and family. Since the 1990s, “the institution of mediation” is the undisputed party also conciliatory in a pluralistic, Polish reality.
