Od 1987 roku Unia Europejska w ramach programu Erasmus wspiera zdobywanie nowych kompetencji i współpracę wyższych uczelni m.in. poprzez finansowanie wymiany studentów i kadry dydaktycznej. Od 2007 r. umożliwiła także bibliotekarzom zatrudnionym w szkołach wyższych odbywanie staży zagranicznych. W artykule zaprezentowano problem wykorzystania programu Erasmus do podnoszenia kwalifikacji zawodowych bibliotekarzy na podstawie doświadczeń pracowników Biblioteki Głównej Politechniki Śląskiej. Wśród uczestników programu Erasmus przeprowadzono ankietę, w której ocenili oni przygotowania i przebieg stażu oraz jego przydatność w rozwoju zawodowym. Analiza wyników ankiety oraz powtórne uczestnictwo części stypendystów w programie świadczy o tym, że jest to interesująca forma poszerzania wiedzy i zdobywania nowych doświadczeń.

Since 1987 the European Union supports the acquisition of new skills and cooperation among universities in the framework of the Erasmus programme, by funding the exchange of students and teaching staff. Since 2007 Erasmus also enabled internships abroad for the librarians employed in higher education. The article presents the use of the Erasmus programme to raise professional qualifications of librarians. The basis for the analysis is the experience of the employees of the Main Library at the Silesian University of Technology. A survey was conducted among the participants of the Erasmus programme. The respondents assessed the preparation and realization of the placement, and its usefulness in their professional development. The analysis of the survey results, and the repeated participation in the scholarship of a half of the beneficiaries indicate that the programme is an interesting form of upgrading one’s qualifications and gaining new experience.

Wsparcie UE istnieje od 1987 roku, a od 2007 roku objęło ono również bibliotekarzy. W artykule zaprezentowano osobliwości alpejskiego miasta Innsbruck oraz przebieg stażu zagranicznego pracownika Biblioteki Politechniki Lubelskiej w Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek Tirol in Innsbruck. Omówiono katalogi i bazy danych.

The European Union is supporting raising competence and the international cooperation of universities by funding partially foreign internships of the teaching staff and students. The EU programme has been functioning from 1987 and from 2007 it also embraces librarians. The article presents the curiosities of the Alpine city of Innsbruck and the course of a foreign internship of an employee of the Lublin Technical University Library in the University and Domestic Library Tyrol in Innsbruck (Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek Tirol in Innsbruck). Catalogues and databases are also discussed.
