Celem pracy było zbadanie rozmieszczenia współczesnych stref przemysłowych w stosunku do lokalizacji terminali intermodalnych (kontenerowych) oraz wskazanie rekomendacji w zakresie zwiększenia wykorzystania transportu kolejowego i intermodalnego. Do analizowanych stref przemysłowych autor zaliczył specjalne strefy ekonomiczne oraz parki przemysłowe i technologiczne. Przedstawiono także różnice pomiędzy deklarowaną a rzeczywistą polityką transportową i przemysłową państwa. Artykuł stanowi diagnozę uwarunkowań wykorzystania kolei i transportu intermodalnego przez przedsiębiorstwa działające w strefach przemysłowych. Uwzględniono procesy zachodzące od początku transformacji ustrojowej w zakresie rozwoju stref przemysłowych i transportu intermodalnego w Polsce. Jak wynika z przeprowadzonych badań, dostęp stref przemysłowych do terminali intermodalnych był ograniczony. Przy lokalizacji stref przemysłowych w małym stopniu brano pod uwagę możliwość doprowadzenia bocznicy kolejowej czy też odległość od terminali kontenerowych. Stanowiło to barierę w rozwoju transportu intermodalnego w Polsce oraz wpływało na zwiększenie kosztów zewnętrznych transportu i jego negatywnego wpływu na środowisko.

The aim of the study was to investigate the location of modern industrial zones in relation to the location of intermodal terminals (containers) and to make recommendations in terms of increasing the use of rail and intermodal transport. As analysed industrial areas, the author has included special economic zones and industrial and technological parks. The differences between the declared and actual transport and industrial policies of the state are also presented. The present article is a diagnosis of the conditions for the use of railways and intermodal transport by companies operating in industrial zones. The processes that have taken place since the beginning of the systemic transformation in the development of industrial zones and intermodal transport in Poland have been taken into account. According to the research, access to intermodal terminals was limited. For the location of industrial zones, the possibility of connecting a railway siding or the distance from container terminals was considered to a small extent. This constituted a barrier to the development of intermodal transport in Poland, increased the cost of external transport and its negative impact on the environment.
