The paper points to the limited scientific value of the results of the so-called investor studies of large-scale development-led (motorway) research. The studies have been confronted with the artefacts they were based on, and significant discrepancies in their cultural and chronological classification have been revealed. In the opinion of the author, the principle of limited trust should be applied to the studies contained in the archives. Additionally, the paper identifies the mechanisms responsible for such a situation.
