The paper describes the realization, poetics and direct Deception of Andrzej Kondratiuk’s film Hydrozagadka (1971). In the sixties Kondratiuk created mostly short forms gravitating towards irony, grotesque, provocative happenings, games with conventions. Therefore, the formula of his cinematic debut in 1970, Dziura w ziemi, was surprising, as it referred to propagandist drama constructing the positive socialist hero, even if filtrated by subjective sensitivity. Hydrozagadka can be interpreted as distancing from the debut, with its parody of Polish positive hero and socialist mass culture created in the collage style. The subject of parody was the new type of villain-chasing socialist superhero promoted at time. The main protagonist, As (performed by Józef Nowak, actor associated with roles of communists “believer”) has the features of Superman but communist consciousness. Simultaneously, the film is – nolens volens – a parody of comic-strip stories “made in USA”: their paper heroes, childish fantasy, improbable plots, simplified psychology and axiology, banal humanism and intrusive didacticism. This fusion of both traditions is marked by genre hybrid emphasized by the director and typical for a large portion of Polish counterparts of genre cinema of the time, in which it was difficult to combine the ideological requirements with the imperatives of entertainment.

Batman jest jednym z najstarszych i jednym z najbardziej popularnych supebohaterów, co powoduje, że staje się on ciekawą postacią do zanalizowania. Celem tego artykułu jest pokazanie, w jaki sposób Mroczny Rycerz był przedstawiany w różnych rodzajach mass mediów, kładąc największą uwagę na sposób kreowania jego wizerunku. Analiza ta ma udowodnić, żew komiksach, w serialach telewizyjnych i filmach, pisarze, artyści i reżyserzy przedstawiali Batmana w różny sposób. To, co jest również ważne, to fakt, że każdy twórca opierał się na tych samych historiach, postaciach i przygodach tego superherosa. Jednak kluczem do zrozumienia, dlaczego Batman został pokazany w taki, a nie w inny sposób, jest czas, w jakim zostało stworzone dane dzieło, ponieważ popkultura traktowana jako proces zmieniała się i wciąż się zmienia. Uwagę należy zwrócić na to, że postać ta stanowi centrum jednego z największych komiksowych uniwersów, które zostało zbudowane wokół jego osoby w ciągu prawie osiemdziesięciu lat. Wciąż jesteśmy świadkami jego nowych historii, co sprawia, że Mroczny Rycerz jest jednym z najbardziej dochodowych superbohaterów.

Batman is one of the oldest and one of the most popular superheroes, what makes him very interesting object to analyze. This thesis intends to show how the Dark Knight was portrayed in the different kind of mass media, paying special attention to his images. The aim of this analysis is to prove that in comic books, tv series and movies, writers, artists and directors presented Batman in various ways. What is important is the fact that everyone of them derived from the same Batman stories, characters and adventures. The key, however, is the time, when these pieces of work were created, because the popculture was and still is changing. The significant point is that this character is the heart of the largest universe, which has developed around him for almost eighty years. Still we are witnesses of new stories, what makes the Dark Knight the most profitable superhero.

The aim of this paper is a character analysis of Conan Edogawa – the protagonist of Meitantei Conan by Gōshō Aoyama – as a variation of the superhero. The research material includes manga, animated series adaptation and related cinematic films. The broadly understood criminal novel (mostly the Sherlock Holmes cycle by Arthur Conan Doyle) was the source of inspiration for the Japanese artist. The analysis of the collected material demonstrates that the described franchise used a transmedia narration. Both Aoyama and the authors of animated adaptations use transfictionality in their works. With the combined usage of the criminal and superhero elements, the Japanese artist created an omnipotent and omniscient superhero detective who can solve any mystery.

Celem niniejszego artykułu jest analiza postaci Conana Edogawy, protagonisty komiksowego cyklu Meitantei Conan autorstwa Gōshō Aoyamy jako wariacji na temat superbohatera. Materiał badawczy, oprócz mangi, stanowią serial animowany będący jej adaptacją oraz powiązane z nim filmy kinowe. Źródło inspiracji dla japońskiego artysty stanowi szeroko pojęta literatura kryminalna, a zwłaszcza opowiadania o Sherlocku Holmesie autorstwa Artura Conana Doyle’a. Analiza zebranego materiału wykazała, że opisywana franczyza ma charakter narracji transmedialnej. Ponadto Aoyama, jak również twórcy animowanych adaptacji komiksu Meitantei Conan, posługuje się transfikcjonalnością. Japoński artysta dzięki połączeniu elementów kryminalnych z superbohaterskimi oraz częściowemu ich sparodiowaniu, stworzył postać „omnipotentnego”, wszechwiedzącego detektywa-superherosa, który jest w stanie rozwiązać każdą zagadkę.

The aim of this BA thesis was to present the influence of postmodernism on the image of superheroes in mass culture. It presents the most important features of postmodernism, as well as the most popular characters from the world of comics of that period. Their influence on the mentality of the recipient of the 20th and 21st centuries was also discussed. The subject of simulacra creating the world of heroes, important for the context, was also discussed. The diploma thesis is based mainly on the work of the Italian writer Umberto Eco, considered one of the most important authors on the subject of postmodernism.

The tension between Soviet Union and United States thatdefined the global political landscape of the second half of the twentiethcentury, had its clear impact on perceptions and creation of Soviet heroes in the context of American culture. The first and primary goal of our article is to investigate and describe the functioning of a particular theme – Russian characters, especially Russian meta-humans in the area of American popular culture, especially mainstream comics. This inquiry is intended to demonstrate the basic historical dimension, i.e. the periods of growth and decline in popularity, and even the complete disappearance of that theme. The purpose of the second goal is an attempt to analyze the structures of comics characters associated with the Soviet Union and place them in a broader historical and cultural context. These treatments allow to signal changes in time-sensitive structure, which consists of values, stereotypes and pop culture clichés appropriate for the American culture. Thus, we hope that this article will be an important contribution to the further study of these issues.

Napięcie między Związkiem Radzieckim a StanamiZjednoczonymi, definiujące światowy polityczny krajobrazdrugiej połowy dwudziestego wieku, miało swoje wyraźneprzełożenie na sposoby postrzegania i kreacji sowieckichbohaterów w ramach amerykańskiej kultury. Pierwszymi podstawowym celem naszego artykułu jest prześledzeniei opisanie funkcjonowania konkretnego motywu – figurRosjan, w szczególności zaś rosyjskich meta-ludzi w przestrzeniamerykańskiej kultury popularnej, przede wszystkimkomiksu głównonurtowego. Kwerenda ta ma w miarę możliwościwykazać podstawowy wymiar historyczny tj. okresywzrostu i spadku popularności, a nawet całkowitego zanikuposzukiwanej figury. Celem drugim jest analiza sposobówkonstrukcji komiksowych bohaterów związanychze Związkiem Radzieckim i postawienie ich w szerszymkontekście historyczno-kulturowym. Te zabiegi umożliwiąz kolei zasygnalizowanie zmieniającej się w czasie konstrukcji,na którą składają się wartości, stereotypy i popkulturoweklisze właściwe dla kultury amerykańskiej. Tym samymmamy nadzieję, że artykuł ten stanie się ważnym przyczynkiemdo dalszych badań nad omawianymi zagadnieniami.
