Celem artykułu jest określenie funkcji form superlatywnych występujących w kronikach felietonowych Henryka Sienkiewicza. Teksty pochodzą z lat 1873–1875, czyli z okresu, kiedy Litwos był czynnym dziennikarzem. Wyekscerpowana baza materiałowa liczy ok. 500 superlatywów (zarówno form syntetycznych, jak i analitycznych oraz wtórnych użyć). Uśredniając dane liczbowe, w jednym felietonie Sienkiewicza występuje 8 superlatywów. Formy superlatywne stanowią materiał zróżnicowany zarówno pod względem formalnym, jak i znaczeniowym, a co za tym idzie – funkcjonalnym. Szczegółowe funkcje determinowane są przez kontekst użycia. Funkcja prymarna, czyli intensyfikacja cechy wyrażonej przez przymiotnik lub przysłówek, służyła różnym celom – najczęściej perswazyjnym, ponadto była wykładnikiem wartościowania, hiperbolizacji i delimitacji. Dotychczasowe badania nad warsztatem pisarskim autora Trylogii każą tłumaczyć znaczną frekwencję superlatywów specyfiką gatunkową felietonu – czyli tendencją do wyolbrzymiania zjawisk, ich perswazyjnego przerysowywania.

The purpose of the article is to identify the functions of the superlative forms in the feuilletonschronicles by Henryk Sienkiewicz. The texts date from 1873 to 1875, i. e. from the time when Litwos was an active journalist. The excerpted material basis contains ca. 500 superlatives (both the synthetic and analytic ones, as well as their secondary usages). On average in one feuilleton by Henryk Sienkiewicz there is 8 superlatives. Superlative forms constitute a material diverse with respect to both form and meaning, and therefore – the function. The particular functions are determined by the usage context. The primary function, i.e. the intensification of the feature expressed by the adjective or the adverb, served different purposes – most frequently persuasive ones. Moreover, it was an exponent of the valuation, hyperbolizing, and delimitation. The existing research into the writing craft of the author of Trilogy explains the considerable quantity of superlatives by the feuilleton genre specificity – i. e. the tendency toward overestimating and persuasive exaggerating.

The article focuses on the tendencies description of the comparative and superlative forms in modern Ukrainian based on the dictionary compiled by A. Neliuba, Ye. Redko Word-Formation in Independent Ukraine. 2012–2016 (2017). The formation models favour the reinterpretation, enlarge the semantic structure of the initial words from qualitative adjectives, which nominate non-grade characteristics, from relative, compound adjectives, from nouns with the omission of the adjectivity stage, the inclination to the synthetic forms. These formation models are marked with regularity. The need to codify the correspondent tendencies, taking into account the regularity of reproduction in the Ukrainian language grammar books sources has been argumented, as well as the need to fi xate and interpret new semantic shades in lexico-graphic sources.

W artykule opisano tendencje tworzenia form komparatiwu i superlatiwu we współczesnym języku ukraińskim na materiale słownika A. Neluby, J. Red`ki Słowotwórstwo niepodległej Ukrainy. 2012–2016 (2017). Modele tworzenia form od przymiotników jakościowych oznaczających cechę niestopniowalną, dzierżawczych, przymiotników złożonych itp. sprzyjają reinterpretacji, rozszerzeniu struktury semantycznej słów podstawowych. Cechuje je regularność. Podkreślono potrzebę usystematyzowania odpowiednich tendencji z uwzględnieniem ich regularnej odtwarzalności w gramatyce języka ukraińskiego, ujęciem i objaśnieniem nowych odcieni semantycznych w źródłach leksykograficznych.
