W artykule zanalizowano obecne i przyszłe tendencje w zakresie regulacji bankowych i praktyk nadzorczych w Unii Europejskiej. Ponadto, krótko przedstawiono ich historię, a także zanalizowano postępy, jakie do tej pory udało się poczynić w tym zakresie. Regulacje bankowe nie są nowym zjawiskiem, ale zyskały szczególnie na znaczeniu w następstwie wielkiego kryzysu finansowego. Są one złożoną kwestią, która wywołuje poważne skutki finansowe dla instytucji kredytowych. W ciągu ostatnich dziesięciu lat w europejskim systemie bankowym nastąpiły silne tendencje regulacyjne. Regulacjom podlegają dziś prawie wszystkie obszary bankowości. Od roku 2008, kiedy kryzys finansowy osiągnął apogeum, trwają nieprzerwane prace nad standardami regulacyjnymi i nadzorczymi. Wiele nowych przepisów jest publikowanych, zmienianych i uaktualnianych. Nawet po dekadzie transformacji w sektorze bankowym "zalew regulacji" nie ustaje.

The article examines current and future trends towards banking regulation and supervisory practice in the European Union. Also, it briefly wraps up the history and analyzes the existing achievements in the subject of interest. Banking regulation is not a new discipline but has gained special importance in the wake of the great financial crisis. It is a complex phenomenon that causes heavy financial effects for credit institutions. Over the past ten years there have been enormous dynamics and regulatory forces in the European banking system. Nearly all banking fields are affected by regulation today. Since the financial crisis reached its peak in 2008, ten years of continuous work on regulatory and supervisory standards have passed. During this time, a multitude of new regulations have been released and constantly amended, adapted or simply updated to reflect new findings. Even after a decade of transformation in the banking sector, the “flood of regulations” does not cease.
