The aim of the article is to establish whether the continuity between the Second and Third Polish Republics officially declared by the Polish elites is based on facts. The authors analyse the question with regard to three areas: symbolic events (handing over of the presidential insignia in 1990 and the 1998 resolution of the Senate of the Republic of Poland on legal continuity), judgements of ordinary courts and the Constitutional Court as well as legal scholarship. In their conclusion they point out that the rhetoric of continuity between the Second and the Third Polish Republics on the legal level hides real continuity between the communist regime and the normative system in force in Poland since 1989.

The article discusses the role of monuments as symbolic forms of contemporary tribal communities. On the example of a monument dedicated to the memory of the victims of the tragedy near Smolensk it was noted that in the absence of a dominant symbolic order in the public space, contemporary Polish tribes do not create their own competitive symbolic forms.

Cassirer’s conception of the modern political myth needs to be treated as one of the elements of his philosophy of culture. To apprehend the conception without its systemic background would be against the “spirit” of this specific type of philosophy which is characterised by focus on coherent unity. It is true, however, that Cassirer only devoted his last writings to this topic, in the period when he lived a life of an exiled Jewish intellectual. Myth as a specific form of thought has never lost its power and it easily takes control over people’s minds and emotions in the times of crisis. Modern politicians are well aware of this fact. They organize myth and adjust it to their political needs and use it for their concrete political ends. The only solution is to understand the nature of the new myth and to fight it with fortitude and generosity.

Current thinking is strongly oriented towards the logos and sees the need for demythologizing. The myth seems to belong to past forms of consciousness that belong to a "naive" worldview. Today's thinking, however, has to be based on the ratio in still in the tradition of Descartes. Based on Paul Ricoeurs' philosophy of reflection, this article aims to show that the integration of  symbolic forms like the myth but also poetry into today's thinking should not be understood as a departure from the logos, but rather as its expansion with ontological relevance. Finally, it should be explored to what extent such a way of thinking proves to be productive for educational processes.
