The aim of the present paper is to discuss the thin border dividing ritual and non-ritual activity by contrasting two opposing theories of ritualization: one perceiving ritualization as a static phenomenon, the other as a dynamic process. Since the author favors the latter, he stresses the crucial importance of corporeality as the source and vehicle of (embryonic) ritual forms. The article further presents a brief introduction to the work of Ronald L. Grimes, a renown ritologist, who has been practically unknown to both the Czech scholarly and general public. Among other things, Grimes explores the origin, development, and extinction of rituals and their place in modern Euro-American society.

The article focuses on cultural changes that the human body goes through in Modernism. It points at the main features of the current disourse of the body. It stresses the importance of medicine and psychological discourses of the time and their link with political discourse of nationality. The same relevance is found regarding the new visual massmedia – especially newspapers and photography. The general outline of the most relevant features of Modernity in connection with the human body is followed by a particular analysis of ruralist prose by František Křelina and Václav Prokůpek. The analysis points at the relevancy of literature disourse facing competition from new modes of representation (especially visual ones).

Článek se věnuje kulturním proměnám, jimiž prochází v moderní době lidská tělesnost. Pojmenovává hlavní okolnosti, formující dobové pohledy na problematiku těla, přičemž zdůrazňuje prosazování i laickou recepci medicínského a psychologického diskurzu, jež jsou propojeny se zájmy politickými. Přinejmenším stejná závažnost je přisuzována novým vizuálním a hromadně sdělovacím médiím – především fotografiím a novinám. Na obecnější uvedení do relevantních znaků moderny ve vztahu k lidské tělesnosti navazuje konkrétní analýza textů Františka Křeliny a Václava Prokůpka. Tato analýza umožňuje poukázat na relevantnost literárního diskurzu i v konkurenci nových, moderních reprezentačních médií.

Th e study refl ects the philosophical analysis of scientifi c research carried out by the botanist Agnes Arber in the 1950s. Her concept entails a valuable contribution to the question of the context of scientifi c discovery and the process of its rationalization in biological disciplines. I will try to show that her considerations are fundamentally phenomenological, and thus the comparison with the thoughts of Maurice Merleau-Ponty on the topic of corporeal nature of senses is useful. Such an interpretation suggests that Arber, similarly to Merleau-Ponty (though using diff erent terminology), considers phenomena not as objects that can be examined separately, but as representing a phenomenal fi eld in which phenomena arise in the context of past experience. According to her, the orientation in the subject of a study is a question of equilibrium, which a researcher actively seeks.

Práce se zabývá filosofi ckou analýzou vědeckého výzkumu, kterou v polovině minulého století provedla botanička Agnes Arberová. Její koncepce je cenným příspěvkem k otázce kontextu vzniku vědeckého objevu a procesu jeho zdůvodnění v biologických disciplínách. Ve stati se pokusím doložit, že její úvahy mají ráz v zásadě fenomenologický, a proto bude její koncepce interpretována na pozadí úvah Maurice Merleau-Pontyho o tělesné povaze smyslů. Taková interpretace napovídá, že Arberová ve shodě s Merleau-Pontym (při užití odlišné terminologie) uvažuje o fenoménech nikoli jako o objektech, které lze zkoumat odděleně, nýbrž nám představuje fenomenální pole, v němž se fenomény vyjevují v souvislosti s předcházející zkušeností. Orientace v předmětu výzkumu lze vnímat jako otázku rovnováhy, jíž badatel výzkumem aktivně vyhledává.

Tématem studie jsou strategie literární reprezentace odsunu/vyhnání Němců z Československa v románech Němci Jakuby Katalpy (2012) a Die Unvollendeten Reinharda Jirgla (2003). Zaměřuje se na dva limitní způsoby literárního vzpomínání, paměť tělesnosti a alegorickou citaci, které v návaznosti na Aleidu Assmannovou chápe jako specifické „stabilizátory vzpomínky“. Němé materiální indexy otištěné do tělesnosti postav a věcí u Katalpy mohou přetrvat rozpad sociálních rámců vzpomínání pouze do té míry, do jaké vzpomínka zůstává ve své němotě mimo jakoukoli diskurzivitu, jež podléhá neustálé proměně. Podobně také strategie citace, která se snaží v modu „druhé přítomnosti“ dosáhnout prchavé aktuality vzpomínky na odsun, zvládá tuto operaci pouze za cenu roztříštění vzpomínky a její střídavé (sebe)reference. Studie se v závěru zaměřuje na specifika literárnosti těchto strategií vzpomínání a jejich praktické důsledky v současné české a německé kultuře vzpomínání.

The article employs Nietzsche’s concept of creativity as the main axis of human existence in order to provide a philosophically substantiated overview of the understanding of the position of the artist and the arts in a society construed upon the state of crisis of the Christian-moral idea of transcendence, as it was developed in the 1940’s discourse on the arts. The topic is gradually approached from three perspectives. The starting point is the notion of transcendence as an anthropological constant and the notion of the artistic form as its realization. Part 2 develops the idea of an aesthetic, ‘translatingʼ relationship to the world, and finds the source of transcendence precisely in the organic character of human existence. Part 3 then pursues the possibilities of a recovery of the complementarity between the profane and the sacred, which, eventually, brings about a rehabilitation of the profane and launches the dynamics of the ambivalent position of the artist in society.
