Ukazana zostanie metodologia stosowana w Kandzie w zakresie identyfikacji punktów styku pomiędzy różnymi systemami prawnymi a językami oficjalnymi w kontekście procedur stosowanych do rozwiązywania problemów braku rozbieżności pojęciowych i terminologicznych jak również przyjętej techniki prawodawczej i uzasadnienia każdorazowo dokonywanych wyborów. Kanadyjskie podejście do kwestii terminologicznych w zakresie procesu nieustającej harmonizacji ustawodawstwa federalnego zostanie przedstawione w niniejszej pracy, jako potencjalnie trafne rozwiązanie, które można zastosować do rozwiązywania problemów terminologicznych związanych z przekładem terminologii prawniczej w ramach Unii Europejskiej.

Th is paper willfocus on the converging and diverging elements of theidiosyncratic legal regimes of federal Canada and of the supranational European Union. The methodology applied in Canada in terms of the stages in identifying the points of contact between the diff erent legal systems and languages in relation to the procedure adopted in cases of conceptual and terminological non-correspondence, as well as the draft ing techniques employed and the justifi cation for choice in each particular instance, will be highlighted. The Canadian approach to terminological issues in the ongoing process of harmonizing federallegislation will be considered as a possible model for felicitous solutions regarding current pressing diffi culties in the translation of legal terms in the European Union.

Informacje dostępne na stronach internetowych mają w turystyce ogromne znaczenie. Dzięki nim turysta może szczegółowo zaplanować podróż – przyjazna strona internetowa może wręcz zadecydować o jego wizycie w danym miejscu. Wśród stron, z których korzystają turyści, znajdują się strony internetowe muzeów. Turysta szuka na nich przede wszystkim danych o lokalizacji placówki, mapy dojazdu, cen biletów czy godzin otwarcia, jak również informacji o wystawach. Coraz częściej strony muzeów są jednak czymś więcej niż tylko wirtualnym informatorem. Wiele instytucji umieszcza w internecie multimedialne materiały edukacyjne czy digitalizuje swoje zbiory, co umożliwia zapoznanie się z nimi bez wychodzenia z domu i czyni je dostępnymi dla całego świata. Celem artykułu jest sprawdzenie, czy strony internetowe polskich muzeów są przygotowane na wirtualne wizyty anglojęzycznych internautów. Dla potrzeb artykułu przebadano strony internetowe wybranych muzeów w Polsce pod kątem udostępniania informacji w języku angielskim. Sprawdzono, czy strona ma wersję anglojęzyczną, czy łatwo można przełączyć jej wersję językową oraz czy wersja anglojęzyczna odpowiada treściowo wersji polskojęzycznej, czy przetłumaczono tylko niektóre informacje

Winged words are combinations of lexical items which can be attributed to a given source. There are two main types of such word combinations: intercultural units, found in a number of languages, and intracultural ones, i.e. the units which are language-specific and are not present in other languages. The focal issue of the paper is the translation of intracultural winged words. Such items are bound to pose a number of problems in the process of translation. First of all, they belong to so-called phraseological lacunae; second, many of them are due to the cultural connotations which they evoke in the native users of a given source language. Therefore, there are no equivalents in the target language. Moreover, many units are not included in bilingual lexicographic works. As a consequence, the translator has to decide on a technique to deal with intracultural winged words. In order to do so, a multiaspectual analysis of a given occurrence of intracultural units has to be conducted to interpret the intratextual and extratextual factors. The analysis is necessary to determine the parametres important for choosing the most adequate technique. Selected case studies of Polish phraseological units are discussed to shed light on the complex phenomenon.

The article aims at analysing methods of translation of alliteration. This stylistic device seems to be neglected in the theory of translation as most scholars focus on such elements as: culturebound items, proper names, dialects, titles, idioms, puns, etc. Yet in some texts (mostly poetic but also written in prose) alliteration is a constructive element which definitely demands consideration on the part of the translator. One such text is G.K. Chesterton’s The Strange Crime of JohnBoulnois which provides the basis not only for the analysis of the nature and functions of alliteration but also methods of its translation. The article discusses different methods used by translators of the short story in order to provide a systematisation of procedures which can be applied when dealing with this linguistic phenomenon.

The present paper discusses the eye-tracking aided research on the audiovisual translation process. The paper begins with a short description of what eyetracking is and how it works. The author then makes an attempt to determine to which activities of the translator the expression "audiovisual translation" refers – in other words, she makes an attempt to define the name "audiovisual translation". In the further part of the paper she tries to answer the question of what is supposed to be translated in the audiovisual text, such as the film, depending on the final recipient. Another issue which is addressed is specifying to which fragment of the reality the name "subtitling" refers and differentiating this reality. Part five presents the possibilities of applying an eyetracker to the research on subtitling for persons who are able to hear in the film. The final part of the paper includes short information on the eyetracking research conducted for other audiovisual translation methods.
