The aim of the following paper is to present and discuss the issue of popularisation of specialised knowledge, in particular legal knowledge. For this purpose the author carried out a pilot analysis of selected articles from the German broadsheets and tabloids. The analysis is preceded by theoretical considerations of specialised knowledge, especially of legal knowledge, its transfer and popularisation in media. Then, the selected press articles were examined based on the techniques and strategies of popularisation described by Niederhauser. The analysis has shown that the techniques and strategies of popularisation of legal knowledge are different depending on the newspaper type. In particular, they differ in the field of content reduction and density, in the field of syntax and text structure, as well as aesthetics of visual materials.

Forms of (Im)Politeness in the Titles of the German Tabloid Press The press language is defined as a special functional style, which is a combination of various language and stylistic forms. When analyzing the language of particular press titles, one can point to the preferred linguistic means that characterize it.This article is an attempt to analyze the language of the German tabloid „Bild“ in terms of forms of linguistic (im)politeness. Base material is made up here of the titles of articles published in the „Bild“ tabloid in September 2012. The choice of press titles as the object of the analysis is dictated by the thesis that headings, as compressed texts about texts, largely reflect the choice of linguistic means used also in the content of articles.

The aim of the article is an analysis of political specificity of tabloid readers–the press which focuses on sensation, targeting less educated audience. The author investigates the real and potential political electorate of tabloid readers. The paper is based on theories of mass culture, political communication (Garbner) and mechanisms of functioning of the public opinion (Lippman, Bourdieu). In tabloids politics is presented as an integral part of modern democratic mass culture and as an object of mass consumption. Tabloids reflect the needs of mass consumption and have become the key means of communication. The patterns of presenting political news are taken over by new media. Research on quality indicates that in tabloids the image of the world of politics, and particularly its elites is cynical and populist. If it comes to the values they demonstrate the mix of values of national and social state. Tabloid readers and people who do not read at all are more politically alienated, less competent, but present more authoritarian and anti-democratic attitudes. Their individualism is lower, but stronger social conformity and weaker need to have their own opinion. The social and psychological profile of tabloid readers is explicit, however it is difficult to associate them in a determined way with the electorate of a particular party or a politician. The results of the analyses are discussed in the perspective of theory of transformation of the public sphere by Jürgen Habermas. Habermas indicated that making politics public by commercial media causes that the public sphere ceases to be a field of debate over political issues. Taking part in it is a kind of consumption, where a ready product is presented to the public–this may be a view or opinion in an easy to consume “pseudo-attractive” form. This criticism of the “mediated” public sphere is still of some value. However, tabloids expand the sphere of public communication into socially excluded electorate and the electorate of Poland B, moreover in the form of sensation they fulfill the control function of the press.

Opisując je, media z reguły przeciwstawiają sztywne prawo i bezdusznych urzędników nietypowym sytuacjom i ludzkiemu cierpieniu. Oprócz krytyki były też relacje pozytywne, wskazujące np. na korzyści z wprowadzenia e-zwolnień. Artykuły na temat obiecanego przez prezydenta i PiS obniżenia wieku emerytalnego dość wnikliwie analizowały cały system emerytalny w Polsce, wskazując, że ta zmiana będzie też testem sprawności i efektywności ZUS.

The article presents the results of analysis into 316 media messages (chiefl y the printed press). For the period 2014 – to mid 2016, covering six areas of ZUS activity: its Comprehensive IT System, e-medical certifi cate, problems with fraudulent outsourcing, ZUS employees remuneration, pensioner complaints to ZUS, the lowering of the retirement age. The aim of the analysis was to determine how the media describe ZUS activity and what knowledge of the social insurance system is provided to their the receivers. The analysis showed that the serious broadsheet press (opinion-forming) describes ZUS as an important institution of the state system, but as one that has long been badly managed, implicated in faulty contracts and costly modernization, which have only recently improved the quality of services provided. In turn, the popular media (television, tabloids) describe ZUS as an important element in social life, which works well, but the tightening up of the social security system (the receipt of undue pensions) has become the cause of human tragedies. In describing them, the media generally opposes the rigid regulations and indifference of officials to unusual situations and human suff ering. Besides criticism there were also positive reports concerning e.g., the implementing of the e-sick leave. Articles on lowering the retirement age as promised by the president and PiS (Law and Justice governing Party) have rather carefully analyzed the entire pension system in Poland, indicating that this change will also constitute a test of the efficiency and effectiveness of the Polish Social Insurance Institution itself.
