Texts are written/spoken language expressions produced by a writer/speaker in a specifi c communication process. Texts used in the translation didactic system must fulfi ll conditions of glottodidactic relevance i.e. they must be carefully selected and must contain a combination of suitable linguistic features. These linguistic features are to be in conformity with a given translation didactic system. Texts are selected by a teacher of translation, whose knowledge of a language for specifi c purposes is broad enough to enable him to choose texts with elements typical of specialist communication. The preparation of didactic texts means fi rst of all selecting a most suitable text. Secondly, it refers to the division of text into meaningful chunks as well as its modifi cation by means of elaboration or elimination techniques. Other possibilities are text compression or highlighting of certain elements of the structure of the text. At the beginning, translation students may benefi t from retranslation exercises and the use of hybrid texts. Finally, the whole process of translation didactics should be oriented towards confronting students with the problem of equivalence.

W opracowaniu zaprezentowano materiały do nauki języka angielskiego jako rzadko wyzyskiwane źródła do badań przeszłości polsko-angielskich kontaktów językowo-kulturowych. Ogląd tekstów edukacyjnych pozwolił: prześledzić czynniki decydujące o wysokim prestiżu języka angielskiego na ziemiach polskich, zaobserwować sposoby wykorzystania elementów kultury anglosaskiej w celach wychowawczych, wskazać rodzaje zjawisk interferencyjnych możliwych do analizowania w tekstach pisanych przez osoby bilingwalne. Obserwacje przeprowadzono zgodnie z założeniami lingwistyki antropologicznej, akcentującej związki między człowiekiem, językiem i kulturą w badaniach nad sposobem używania języka przez naszych przodków.

The study presents materials for learning English as rarely exploited sources for research into the past of Polish-English linguistic and cultural contacts. The viewing of educational texts allowed to: examine the factors determining the high prestige of English among Poles, observe ways of using elements of Anglo-Saxon culture for educational purposes, indicate the types of interference phenomena possible to analyze in texts written by bilingual people. The observations were carried out in accordance with the assumptions of anthropological linguistics, stressing the relationship between man, language and culture in the study of our ancestors’ language use.

Nie ulega wątpliwości, że współczesne podręczniki poświęcone różnym tematom i dziedzinom różnią się od swoich poprzedników pod wieloma względami. W swoim opracowaniu Alessandra Zurolo analizuje niemieckie teksty dydaktyczne z zakresu medycyny pochodzące z różnych epok i omawia ich charakterystyczne cechy na różnych poziomach, aby y jednej strony wskazać pewne wzorce w ich kompozycji, a z drugiej strony prześledzić ich historyczny rozwój.

There is no doubt that modern textbooks on various subjects differ from their predecessors in many ways. In her study, Alessandra Zurolo analyzes German medical didactic texts from different periods and discusses their characteristic features on different levels to point out certain patterns of their design on the one hand and to track their historical development on the other hand.

Außer Zweifel steht, dass sich die modernen Lehrbücher zu verschiedenen Fächern von deren Vorläufern in vielerlei Hinsicht unterscheiden. Alessandra Zurolo nimmt in ihrer Untersuchung deutsche medizinische Lehrtexte aus verschiedenen Zeitstufen unter die Lupe und stellt ihre charakteristischen Merkmale auf verschiedenen Ebenen dar, um einerseits auf bestimmte Muster deren Gestaltung hinzuweisen und andererseits ihre geschichtliche Entwicklung zu verfolgen.
