The aim of the article is to show the context in which Pope Francis’ Marian spirituality and Mariology has been shaped. The first paragraph shows the reasons for the Marian devotion of the faithful in Latin America. They are found in the very beginning of the evangelization of the New World. The second paragraph shows the stages of the theological and Marian spiritual formation of the Pope, starting with the formation in the family home until the Episcopal ordination in 1992. Furthermore, the main Mariological theses included in the final documents of the Conference CELAM are presented. The fourth paragraph focuses on the Document from Aparecida and its analysis done by Cardinal Bergoglio just a year after its publication. Finally, the fifth, which is the final point, shows the presence of South American Mariology, especially the Document from Aparecida, in Pope Francis’ exhortation Evangelii gaudium. To conclude, Pope Francis’ Mariology has a primarily kerygmatic, ecclesiotypic and functional character.

Celem artykułu jest ukazanie kontekstu, w jakim kształtowała się duchowość maryjna i mariologia papieża Franciszka. Artykuł w pierwszym paragrafie przyczyny maryjnego charakteru pobożności wiernych w Ameryce Łacińskiej, których należy szukać w samych początkach ewangelizacji Nowego Świata. Drugi paragraf ukazuje etapy kształtowania się teologii i duchowości maryjnej przyszłego papieża, począwszy od domu rodzinnego aż do momentu święceń biskupich w 1992 r. W kolejnym paragrafie zostały przedstawione główne tezy mariologiczne zawarte w dokumentach końcowych Konferencji CELAM. Czwarty paragraf koncentruje się na Dokumencie z Aparecidy i jego analizie, której dokonał kard. Bergoglio w rok po jego publikacji. Piąty i ostatni paragraf prezentuje obecność mariologii południowoamerykańskiej, zwłaszcza Dokumentu z Aparecidy, w adhortacji papieża Franciszka Evangelii gaudium. Z przeprowadzonych badań można wyciągnąć wniosek, że mariologia papieża Franciszka ma wymiar charakter przede wszystkim kerygmatyczny, eklezjotypiczny i funkcjonalny.

The pontificate of Francis has a specific character that does not consist only in the spectacular gesture and in a new language but is manifesting in the contents of his teaching. The presented paper is an attempt to outline the main message in the teaching of Francis and his most important theological inspirations which explain the optics and specific theological accents of his pontificate. The starting point is a presentation of the theology of people which is in the centre of thought of Francis about the Church and a basis for his understanding of social questions. Further, are presented elements of Ignatian spirituality which have an impact on the manner of presenting the theological themes by the Jesuit Pope. The last point presents a reflection about mercy, which is the theological key-idea in the teaching of Francis and finds application in the understanding of a lot of specific questions. The analysis of the teaching of Francis confirms that it is based on the Bible, the theological tradition of the Church and the teaching of the Second Vatican Council and shows specific new aspects which are voices so far hardly audible in the world Church.

Specyfika pontyfikatu Franciszka nie polega jedynie na spektakularnych gestach i nowym języku, ale przejawia się również w głoszonych treściach. Niniejszy tekst jest próbą zarysowego przedstawienia głównego przesłania nauczania papieża Franciszka i jego zasadniczych inspiracji teologicznych, które wyjaśniają optykę i specyficzne akcenty teologiczne jego pontyfikatu. Punktem wyjścia jest prezentacja teologii ludu, która stanowi centrum myśli i nauczania Franciszka o Kościele i stanowi podstawę rozumienia wszelkich innych zagadnień, także społecznych. W dalszej kolejności jest mowa o elementach duchowości ingacjańskiej, mającej wpływ na sposób ujęcia zagadnień teologicznych w nauczaniu jezuickiego papieża. Na końcu przedmiotem refleksji jest miłosierdzie będące kluczowym pojęciem teologicznym w nauczaniu Franciszka, które znajduje aplikację w rozumieniu zagadnień szczegółowych. Analiza nauczania papieża Franciszka prowadzi do wniosku, że jest ono zakorzenione w Piśmie Świętym, wielowiekowej tradycji teologicznej i nauczaniu Soboru Watykańskiego II, stanowiąc ich kontynuację, ale wykazuje także nowe aspekty, które są wybrzmieniem głosu dotychczas słabo słyszanego w Kościele powszechnym.

From the first days of Pope Francis’ pontificate, Catholics around the world have been trying to understand the intentions of the Successor of Peter when he speaks on issues important to the teaching of the Church. For many Catholics, some elements of Francis’ teaching are disturbing, others are surprised, and still others enthusiastically endorse them. This text is an attempt to analyze some elements of Francis’ teaching and the genetic origin of the proclaimed content, which imply an infidelity to the accepted teaching of the Magisterium. The topics analyzed include the following issues raised by the Pope: understanding of the Church and the primacy of Peter, Catholic marriage, interreligious dialogue, and ecology. The author is looking for an answer to the question of whether the Pope reads the signs of the times and adjusts the teaching of the Church to the mentality and realities of modern life, or whether he is staging a coup that may bring consequences that are difficult to predict.

Od pierwszych dni pontyfikatu papieża Franciszka katolicy na całym świecie usiłują zrozumieć intencje, które przyświecają następcy Piotra, kiedy zabiera głos w istotnych dla nauczania Kościoła kwestiach. U wielu katolików niektóre elementy nauczania Franciszka rodzą niepokój, u innych zdziwienie, a jeszcze inni entuzjastycznie je aprobują. Tekst jest próbą analizy niektórych elementów nauczania Franciszka i genetycznego pochodzenia głoszonych treści, które implikują niewierność przyjętemu nauczaniu Magisterium. Wśród analizowanych tematów są podejmowane przez papieża zagadnienia: rozumienie Kościoła, prymat Piotra, małżeństwo katolickie, dialog międzyreligijny, ekologia. Autor poszukuje odpowiedzi na pytanie, czy papież odczytuje znaki czasu i dostosowuje nauczanie Kościoła do mentalności i realiów życia współczesnego człowieka, czy też dokonuje przewrotu, który może przynieść trudne do przewidzenia konsekwencje.
