EN
Patriotism has been widely interpreted, usually as love for the motherland, dedication and devotion to one’s state and identification with the whole nation. The classification of this term, on the basis of how it is understood in Poland and in the whole world, indicates its multi-faceted and multi-criterial dimensions. Patriotism has been perceived as a crucial element of the awareness of a civil society, where the respect for one’s motherland co-exists with regard for other cultures and communities. Formerly, patriotism was a very important value. It is not only a state of mind, a sense of unity with one’s nation, but it also includes deeds resulting from deliberate actions. Throughout history, bursts of patriotism played a significant role in many wars, in shaping the identity and in the interpretation of love for the motherland.
