Nazwą Międzymorza określa się wschodnią połać Europy, ograniczoną dwoma południkowo biegnącymi liniami. Jedna łączy Zatokę Pomorską Morza Bałtyckiego z Zatoką Wenecką Adriatyku (linia AB), podczas gdy druga biegnie od północnego krańca Morza Czarnego do Zatoki Ryskiej lub Fińskiej (linia BC). W artykule przedstawiono ewolucję geopolityczną Międzymorza w ciągu ery nowożytnej i upadek istniejących tu niegdyś ośrodków siły: Rzeczypospolitej Obojga Narodów i Imperium Habsburgów. Międzymorze zostało podzielone na dwie strefy wpływów sąsiednich potęg: Rosji i Niemiec. Ich rywalizacja może doprowadzić do sytuacji, w której Międzymorze ponownie stanie się ośrodkiem siły, zdolnym do zrównoważenia potencjałów zarówno Rosji jak i Niemiec. Największa rola w możliwym odrodzeniu Międzymorza przypadnie wówczas Polsce.

The name Intermare (lat. Intermarinum) is used to define the expanse of eastern Europe located between two longitudinally extending lines. One of them connects the Pomeranian Bay of the Baltic Sea with the Adriatic Gulf of Venice (line AB), while the other runs from the northern end of the Black Sea (Odessa) to the Baltic Gulf of Riga or Gulf of Finland (line BC). The article presents the evolution of geopolitical concept of Intermare in the modern era and the fall of the once existing centers of power: the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and the Habsburg Empire. Intermare has been then divided into two zones of influence of neighboring powers, that is to say to Russia and Germany. Their rivalry could lead to a situation in which the Intermare once again become the center of power, able to balance the potentials of both neighboring powers of Russia and Germany. The biggest role in a possible revival of Intermare would be played by Poland.
