For ages the figure of a priest has been playing a considerable role in the Polish society. The Holy Bible presents a universal model of an exemplary priest. Depending on a given historical moment and geographical situation this model is being enriched with an additional but dominating aspect. Despite being generally characterized by time and space limitation, it is from the angle of this very model that the priest’s profile is being assessed. The main measure for valuing a priest in the Krajna District during the Prussian rule – and in the western part of the region also in the twenty-year interwar period under the German yoke – was his attitude to Poland and Polish national identity, mother tongue, history, culture as well as to the idea of national liberation. The aim of this article is to present, with reference to the presented criterion, some selected images of the Krajna priests known from literature and historical sources.
