The various patriotic ceremonies, which have been organized during the annexation period on the Polish lands, with a view to waking up and supporting the national consciousness and identity amongst Poles, contributed to the development of the personal bibliography and the bibliography in the field of history. The ceremonies were initiated in celebration of: the important anniversary of the significant events in the Polish history, the successes of Polish Arms, the jubilees associated with life and work of the eminent Polish writers, poets and in the context of the funerals of the noble Poles. The collection of these bibliographies has been compiled by the most eminent Polish bibliographers, including Karol Estreicher, Władysław Wisłocki and Wiktor Hahn. They published their works as a rule in the area of the autonomous Galicia making use of the political and social climate. In this respect Kraków became a leading growth centre.

Uroczystości patriotyczne organizowane na ziemiach polskich w okresie zaborów, mające na celu podtrzymywanie i budzenie świadomości narodowej wśród Polaków, przyczyniły się do rozwoju bibliografii osobowych oraz zagadnieniowych przede wszystkim z zakresu historii. Inicjowano je z okazji „okrągłych” rocznic doniosłych wydarzeń w dziejach Polski, sukcesów oręża polskiego, jubileuszy związanych z życiem i twórczością wybitnych polskich pisarzy i poetów oraz z powodu pogrzebów znamienitych Polaków. Ich opracowaniem zajmowali się najwybitniejsi polscy bibliografowie, w tym Karol Estreicher, Władysław Wisłocki i Wiktor Hahn. Wykorzystując sprzyjającą sytuację społecznopolityczną, ogłaszali je z reguły na terenie autonomicznej Galicji, a przodującym ośrodkiem stał się w tym względzie Kraków.
