A question about the being of the upbringing is a point of departure for dissertations passed in the article. Appealing to different positions an attempt to portray the phenomenon of the upbringing and ways of understanding him was made. On the basis of literature studies an outline of the evolution of views on upbringing, ways of defining the concept and critique of education has been presented, which became an appeal to rethink it. The aim of the article is to - by presenting a dispute about upbringing - join the discourse devoted to raising awareness of both the complexity of the problem and the inability to achieve a common and satisfying understanding of this phenomenon.

Punktem wyjścia podjętych w artykule rozważań jest pytanie o istotę wychowania. Odwołując się do różnych stanowisk podjęto próbę ukazania fenomenu wychowania oraz sposobów jego rozumienia. Na podstawie studiów literaturowych ukazana została w zarysie ewolucja poglądów na wychowanie, sposoby definiowania pojęcia oraz krytyka wychowania, która stała się wezwaniem do ponownego nad nim namysłu. Celem artykułu jest – poprzez ukazanie sporu o wychowanie – włączenie się w dyskurs uświadamiający zarówno złożoność problemu jak i niemożność osiągnięcia wspólnego i wszystkich satysfakcjonującego rozumienia tego fenomenu.
