Nie zawsze oddziaływanie lidera na otoczenie jest świadome, celowe, pozytywne i korzystnie generujące świadome, celowe, pożądane i lokalnie oczekiwane korzyści dla otoczenia w ogóle, a dla społeczeństwa lokalnego czy rdzennego w szczególności. Są przypadki na świecie, gdzie lider w przemyśle wydobywczym nastawiony jest w otoczeniu na zysk, a negocjacje władz samorządowych dotyczące rozbudowania infrastruktury w okolicznych miastach wokół kopalni są bezskuteczne. Inaczej jest w przypadku grona wydobywczego na terenie Zagłębia Miedziowego w Polsce, którego rozwój bezpośrednio przyczynił się do intensywnego rozwoju tutejszego społeczeństwa lokalnego. Rozwój ten można określić np. poziomem i stanem spełnienia przez lidera standardów społecznej odpowiedzialności biznesowej zawartych w międzynarodowych modelach CSR. Dlatego przeprowadzone badania wskazują z jednej strony na zakres determinantów tego rozwoju i specyfiki społeczeństwa lokalnego, jakie współistnieje w otoczeniu lidera. Z drugiej – na możliwość modelowania tego rozwoju i specyfiki dla jeszcze lepszych efektów, np. korzyści społecznych dla społeczności lokalnych czy rozwoju posiadanych specyficznych kompetencji ludności lokalnej (w ogóle lub zawodowo) lub też konkurencyjności tych społeczności w porównaniu do innych społeczeństw w otoczeniu podobnych liderów. Przejawem tej konkurencyjności są m.in. silnie rozwijające się i działające strefy ekonomiczne na terenie wspomnianej społeczności lokalnej.

A leader does not always have a conscious, intentional and positive influence on the environment that expediently generates conscious, intentional, desired and locally-expected benefits for the environment in general, and for the local or ethnic community in particular. There are examples in the world showing that in the case of mining industry an environmental leader is profit-oriented and the negotiations held by local government authorities regarding the development of infrastructure in the cities surrounding mines are ineffective. The situation is different in the case of the mining cluster on the territory of the Copper Belt in Poland, the development of which directly contributed to intensive development of the surrounding local community. The level and status of this development can be determined for instance by the level and status of fulfilment by its leader of corporate social responsibility standards set out in the CSR international models. Therefore, the studies that have been carried out indicate on one hand the scope of determinants of such development and the specific character of local community that coexists in the leader’s environment, and on the other hand they indicate a possibility of shaping the said development and specific character in order to achieve even better effects that is e.g. social benefits to the local communities in question or the development of their specific competencies of local people (in general or in professional terms) or competitiveness of such communities as compared to other communities in the environment of similar leaders. The competitiveness is reflected among others in the thriving economic zones operating in the area of the said local community.
