Duszpasterstwo ewangelickie w więzieniu elbląskim w drugiej połowie XIX wieku

From the mid-19th century there took place important changes in the German judicial system including the prison system, which was to lead to the resocialization and returning prisoners to social life. An essential element of those actions was the regular pastoral care, the introduction of full-time chaplains to prisons, teaching and religious education of juvenile criminals, the promotion of reading and the integration of former prisoners with their family and local community. All those actions were consistently introduced from the mid-19th century also in the prison of Elbląg. The article presents the complicated beginnings of the Evangelical prison ministry in Elbląg, the figures of chaplains, methods of pastoral influence and aims and the composition of Verein zur Fürsorge für entlassene Sträflinge im Elbinger Kreise set up in 1873.

Seit der Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts kam es zu wesentlichen Veränderungen in der deutschen Justiz, darunter auch im Gefängniswesen, das zur Resozialisierung und zur Rückkehr von Gefangenen in das gesellschaftliche Leben führen sollte. Wichtige Elemente bei diesen Bemühungen waren eine regelmäßige Seelsorge, die Einführung von festangestellten Pfarrern in den Gefängnissen, religiöse Lehre und Erziehung für jugendliche Straftäter, die Förderung des Lesens sowie die Hilfe für frühere Gefangene bei der Integration in die Familie und in die örtliche Gesellschaft. All diese Aktivitäten wurden seit der Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts auch im Gefängnis in Elbing konsequent unternommen. Der Artikel präsentiert die komplizierten Anfänge der evangelischen Gefängnisseelsorge in Elbing, die Persönlichkeiten der Pfarrer, die Methoden der seelsorgerischen Einwirkung sowie die Ziele und die personelle Zusammensetzung des 1873 gegründeten Vereins zur Fürsorge für entlassene Sträflinge im Elbinger Kreise.

Celem autora jest ukazanie skali zainteresowania studentów problematyką przestępczości oraz zagadnieniami więziennictwa przy przygotowywaniu prac dyplomowych licencjackich i magisterskich w Wyższej Szkole Bezpieczeństwa i Ochrony im. Marszałka Józefa Piłsudskiego w Warszawie od początków jej funkcjonowania (2005) do ubiegłego roku (2018). Artykuł powstał na podstawie dokumentacji wewnętrznej uczelni, przechowywanej w dziekanatach oraz w archiwum. Zakres problemowy prac dotyczących przestępczości i systemu penitencjarnego był bardzo zróżnicowany. Jest on odbiciem głównych zjawisk w wymiarze historycznym i współczesnym. Autor podaje i omawia przykłady tematów.

This article discusses the range of student’s interest in crime issues and the prison system in the process of preparations for the thesis – bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at The Marshal Józef Piłsudski College of Security and Protection in Warsaw. The research includes the data collected from the beginning of activity of college (2005) until last year (2018). The article is based on the internal documentation of the college kept in dean’s office and archive. Range of issue of thesis related to crime and prison system is diversified. It is a reflection of main phenomenon in terms of history and present days. Author gives and discusses the examples of subjects.

W artykule przedstawiono sposób realizacji zasady równouprawnienia kościołów i związków wyznaniowych, będącej jedną z najistotniejszych w systemie współczesnego polskiego prawa wyznaniowego, w odniesieniu do funkcjonowania duszpasterstw w polskich zakładach penitencjarnych. Badania oparto na specjalistycznych sprawozdaniach. Z ich analizy jednoznacznie – zdaniem autora – wynika, że zasada równouprawnienia kościołów i innych związków wyznaniowych w Polsce na przestrzeni ostatnich lat, w sferze funkcjonowania duszpasterstw penitencjarnych, jest w pełni zachowywana.

In this text, the way of realization of the equality principle of churches and religious associations towards the state is introduced. The principle is one of the most essential in the system of the contemporary Polish religious law in relation to the functioning of the priesthoods in the national penitentiaries.
