W artykule przedstawiono teoretyczne podstawy funkcjonowania convention bureaux (CBs), nawiązujące do nurtu instytucjonalizmu oraz zjawiska konkurencyjności regionów. Skoncentrowano się na problemie, w jaki sposób powyższe nurty teoretyczne mogą być użyteczne w wyjaśnianiu roli convention bureauxjako instytucji oddziałujących na konkurencyjność miast, w odniesieniu do turystyki oraz całej lokalnej gospodarki. Analizie poddano najważniejsze teorie i modele konkurencyjności regionów oraz konkurencyjności regionów turystycznych, wskazując jakie miejsce zajmują w nich convention bureauxoraz przemysł spotkań.

In her article, the author presented the theoretical grounds of convention bureaux (CBs) operation, referring to the stream of institutionalism and the phenomenon of regions competitiveness. She focused on the problem how the said theoretical streams may be useful in explanation of the role of convention bureaux as the institutions affecting towns’ competitiveness, related to tourism and the whole local economy. The analysis comprised the most important theories and models of regions competitiveness and competitiveness of tourist regions indicating what places there are occupied in the by convention bureaux and the industry of meetings.
