The present paper is a proposal of classification of transfer errors from a pedagogical point of view. It is also a proposal to work with transfer errors, since, thanks to the use of the monitor model, you can activate the autocorrection so that these errors can be easily avoided.

The paper deals with two method models inspired by the classical Freudian psychoanalysis and the new model developed on the basis of American neopsychoanalytical thought of Erich Fromm. The fi rst model of interpretation looks at literature as a transformation of unconscious desire into the esthetic shape of literary work, the second model seeks in it a crystallization of unconscious structures of mind, whereas the third one – introduced in the paper – approaches literature against the background of the social unconsciousness as an expression of the Idol which was precisely defi ned by Fromm in 1990.

The paper is aimed at finding answers to the following questions: (1) Is there empirical evidence for the psychoanalytic concept of transference? (2) Is there empirical evidence for the usefulness of working with transference in psychotherapy? Objections concerning the reality and practical value of transference have been summarized. A review of research dedicated to transference has been conducted, covering fundamental research in the psychology of social cognition as well as research on psychotherapy using both psychodynamic and nonpsychodynamic approaches. Studies from the first group confirm the existence of transference. Studies from the second group indicate conditions in which working with transference in psychotherapy seems to be efficient. Implications for psychotherapy practice have been formulated.

What is poetry for? How does poiesis or making - the Greek root of the words poetry and poetics - succeed in moving us, in getting under our skins? “Becoming Animal” argues that art and literature are crucial zones of play, transformative modes that work by mixing up self and other, inside and out, human, animal and other matter. The essay moves from a consideration of D.W. Winnicott’s psychoanalytic discussion of the relationship between play and creativity, self and other, to Howard Searles’ investigation of transference and counter-transference as possible models for engaged and sensuously attuned critical stances. The last section of the essay offers an account of the “transgenic” work of Eduardo Kac, which literally mixes genetic material as art. The essay concludes by arguing that art, as poiesis, works by engaging us in constant contact with what is not ourselves as a process of becoming ourselves; it argues that such ‘self-estrangement’ is the way we sort out how to live an ontologically rich and ethically meaningful life.
