The aim of Cross-border directive was to increase the freedom to provide health services throughout the European community. So far, under the Treaties, this special economic area was regulated by law prevailing in each Member States and, to a limited extent was a subject to external coordination. By October 2013 each EU country was obliged to implement the provisions of the directive into national law. This publication describes the directive and the contents of a law implementing it in Poland. It also includes the preliminary observations and conclusions of the first six months of its functioning.

Dyrektywa transgraniczna miała na celu zwiększenie swobody przepływu usług zdrowotnych na terenie wspólnoty europejskiej. Dotychczas na mocy traktatów ten obszar gospodarczy był co do zasady w domenie państw członkowskich i w ograniczonym zakresie podlegał koordynacji. Do października 2013 r. każde państwo UE miało obowiązek wdrożyć przepisy dyrektywy do swojego porządku prawnego. W artykule opisano dyrektywę oraz ustawę ją wdrażającą, a także zawarto pierwsze spostrzeżenia z pierwszego półrocza jej funkcjonowania.
