Kanał Augustowski to bezcenne, unikatowe w skali europejskiej dzieło budownictwa wodnego z pierwszej połowy XIX wieku. Stanowi świadectwo wysokiego kunsztu technicznego i realizatorskich umiejętności polskich inżynierów wojskowych i cywilnych. Ta wodna arteria miała połączyć Wisłę – przez rzeki: Narew, Biebrzę, Nettę i Czarną Hańczę – z Niemnem, a następnie przez rzekę Windawę – z portem nadbałtyckim Windawą. Ponieważ projektowany Kanał Windawski nie został zbudowany – Kanał Augustowski łączy się z Bał-tykiem przez Niemen.Kanał Augustowski bez wątpienia jest jednym z najciekawszych obiektów zabytkowych o charakterze drogi wodnej. Jest związany z rejonami Natura 2000 oraz zawiłą historią. Celem pracy było zbadanie pod względem jakościowym i ilościowym stanu bazy noclegowej i gastronomicznej Augustowa i rejonu Kanału augustowskiego. Do przeprowadzenia badań zebrano informacje o bazie noclegowej i gastronomicznej na całym polskim odcinku Kanału, ankietyzacji poddano 200 osób. Wyliczono średni pobyt, określono jakość bazy noclegowej i gastronomicznej. Całość zilustrowano w tabelach. Artykuł ma charakter badawczy.

The Augustów Canal is a priceless, unique in the European scale creation of hydro engineering from the first half of the 19th century. It is an evidence of the high technical art and realising skills ofPolish military and civil engineers. This water artery had to join the Vistula River – by the Narew, Biebrza, Netta, and Czarna Hańcza Rivers – with the Niemen River, and then, through the Windawa River, with the Baltic Sea port Windawa. As the projected Windawski Canal has not been constructed, the Augustów Canal is connected with the Baltic Sea by the Niemen River. The Augustów Canal is undoubtedly one of the most interesting listed buildings of the waterway nature. It is connected with the Natura 2000 regions as well as with tingled history. An aim of this article was to investigate in terms of quality and quantity the state of accommodation and catering base of Augustów and the region of Augustów Canal. For the purpose of research the authors collected information on the accommodation and catering base across the entire Polish section of Canal and interviewed 200 people. They computed the average stay, determine the quality of accommodation and catering base. The whole study is illustrated with tables. The article is of the research nature.
