Data production is becoming an emerging trend in critical urban activism. Precise and reliable public information, including spatial and environmental information, serves individual and collective ‘right to the city’ beliefs. One of the common strategies adopted by contemporary urban movements to ensure the accuracy and inclusiveness of urban data production processes are various forms of counter-mapping, which we introduce in this paper as a perspective aimed in critical evaluation of urban environmental conditions in Polish cities. By process tracing of smog alerts and urban greenery movements, we investigate the main strategies of using such tools and their effects for both particular social actors, and general urban environmental policy. We argue that the core idea of a citizen-driven collection of geographical data is strongly supported by its other features – social involvement and collective production of visualizations illustrating the scale and dynamics of particular environmental problems. In this sense, counter-mapping is aimed rather at repoliticizing urban environmental data in order to critically evaluate existing urban policy, than just to ensure greater citizen involvement in environmental decision-making.
W artykule wykazano możliwość zastosowania technik GIS w badaniach dostępności do parków miejskich jako narzędzia pomocnego w kształtowaniu polityki rozwoju przestrzennego, w szczególności obszarów mieszkaniowych.

It should be important tool in shaping development policy planning, especially in residential areas.
Urban greenery plays an irreplaceable role in the creation of local climate. We present principles of the functioning of vegetation as a perfect air-conditioning apparatus that efficiently cools down the environment and balances ambient temperatures by means of evapotranspiration. We show the potential of the quantification of the conditioning role of vegetation, including evaluation of ecosystemic services and examples of use of various thermal data for the assessment of urban environment and climate.

Městská zeleň má nezastupitelnou úlohu v tvorbě místního klimatu. Představujeme principy fungování vegetace ve městech coby dokonalého klimatizačního zařízení, které prostřednictvím evapotranspirace účinně ochlazuje okolí a vyrovnává teploty. Ukazujeme možnosti kvantifikace klimatizační úlohy vegetace, včetně hodnocení ekosystémových služeb a příklady využití různých typů termálních dat pro hodnocení městského prostředí a klimatu.
Nieustanny postęp urbanizacji i niedobór terenów zielonych mogą powodować słabe poczucie bezpieczeństwa, poczucie wyobcowania wśród mieszkańców miast, prowadzące do niskiej spójności społecznej, utraty dobrego samopoczucia i nasilania miejskiego stresu. W artykule przedstawiono pierwszy etap badań, w którym badano postrzeganie jakości życia codziennego społeczności lokalnej w odniesieniu do miejsca zamieszkania i poziomu integracji. W grupie docelowej przeprowadzono badanie ankietowe. Zebrano 96 ankiet, analizie statystycznej poddano 9 pytań w odniesieniu do 9 danych demograficznych.

Constant progress of urbanization and the shortage of greenspaces, may cause a poor sense of security, the feeling of alienation among urban residents, leading to low social cohesion, loss of the sense of wellbeing and intensify urban stress. This paper presents the first stage of research in which the perception of the local community’s everyday life quality in relation to the place of residence and the level of integration were examined. A questionnaire survey has been carried out in the target group. 96 questionnaires were collected, 9 questions in relation to 9 demographic data were subjected to statistical analysis. The aim of the entire research is to indicate whether and to what extent, the introduced nature-based solutions are able to improve sense of security and wellbeing in the local community. The chi-square test of independence and the Spearman's rank correlation coefficient were determined. The results have revealed poor sense of security and community wellbeing in a certain group of respondents. The authors also discuss the positive impact of urban greenery on the social wellbeing parameters and point out the necessity to include NBSs in the systemic directions, on the example of the Grow Green project in the City of Wroclaw.
Parks are undoubtedly areas of great natural value to the city, mainly due to the ecosystem services and ecological functions they provide. An important component of every park is its forest stand. In this paper, the study of dendroflora were conducted in seven parks of Bielsko-Biała. The parks were created in the 19th century. They are located mainly in the central part of the city. This paper presents the results of the study on the species composition as well as the quantity of each species in the parks. Furthermore, basic dendrometric characters such as tree height and circumference at the breast height were also analyzed. A total of 615 trees belonging to 32 species from 21 genus and 12 families were found in parks. There was a dominance of deciduous trees (28 species) over conifers (5). The largest number of examined trees was in Strzegowski Park, and the smallest in Park at Komorowicka Street. In turn, the largest number of species was in Słowacki Park, and the smallest in the Park near to Zipser villa. In addition, the presence of 144 specimens with monumental dimensions was indicated. Most of the park trees had dimensions in the range of 200–300 cm in terms of circumference at the breast height and height in the interval 20–30 m. Typical trees that occur in the natural forest communities of Poland were noted in the parks. These include: oaks, beeches, ash trees, hornbeams, alders, maples or lindens. Some of them are often selected for planting in parks and avenues. Of the 32 tree species, 10 were most numerous: Tilia cordata, T. platyphyllos, Acer platanoides, A. pseudoplatanus, A. saccharinum, Fraxinus excelsior, Alnus glutinosa, Carpinus betulus, Aesculus hippocastanum and Quercus robur. Among examined species, alien invasive species (Robinia pseudoacacia and Quercus rubra) were noted. They are classified as medium invasive plants. In this paper the authors pointed out the parameters that can affect the number of trees included in the study, for example: minimum circumference at the breast height, park area, age of the forest stand and local condition. Therefore, further research regarding the dendroflora in parks of Bielsko-Biała should be expanded with additional analyses, especially to determinate full species composition and changes in the stand.
Cities in times of climate change – one of the most current and probably the most complex challenges that local governments have to face. Although a large number of adaptation strategies and climate plans have emerged recently, many have a common outcome; the simplest and most economically advantageous solution is urban greenery, especially trees. Urban greenery in public space is perceived as an essential element of cities and its impacts are automatically accepted by the public as positive. The negative effects of greenery in the urban environments, apart from possible allergies, practically are not reflected or considered by urban planners at all. However, the environmental impact of trees in city streets, both positive and negative, represents a significant consequence of adaptation policies, as well as their cost-benefit ratio. The results of newly developed and validated microclimate models can be used to assess the potential impact of tree planting on pedestrian level. Due to the high level of detail, they can provide a new insight into the processes in the street canyon and bring a new perspective for a comprehensive assessment of adaptation measures. The paper aims to: I) explain and summarize the basic principles and differences between the models; II) describe the direct and indirect links between the variables and III) interpret the latest knowledge about the positive and negative effects of greenery in the street space on the example of two scenarios in Prague-Dejvice.

Město v čase klimatické změny – jedna z nejaktuálnějších a patrně nejsložitějších výzev, které musí místní samosprávy čelit. Ačkoli v poslední době vzniklo velké množství adaptačních strategií a klimatických plánů, mají mnohé společný výsledek; nejjednodušší a ekonomicky nejvýhodnější řešení představuje městská zeleň, především stromy.
Healthy, lush greenery is a factor that works relaxingly, soothingly, and therapeutically on the human body – both in the physical and psychological spheres (soma and psyche). Already throughout the 19th century, greenery was consciously incorporated into the urban structure of cities (e.g. city squares, parks, public gardens, children's playgrounds, or numerous spa parks in health resorts), intensifying such activities in the 20th and 21st century (restoration of natural resources after World War I and II, the establishment of new multifunctional parks and theme gardens). The aim of the study is to present research confirming that vegetation has an extremely beneficial impact on the health and quality of life of people, e.g. in the aesthetic, emotional or physiological sphere – especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Besides the pathogenic action of the virus itself, this pandemic brought about serious consequences for the quality of life of a significant part of the population in many countries worldwide, both in terms of general health condition and mental health. The research includes several fundamental stages. First, the issues were defined and the main research goal was formulated. Subsequently, a literature survey was conducted to collect examples concerning the crucial role of urban parks, forests and trees for the quality of life in cities, especially in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The result of the analysis of the collected data shows that parks, urban forests and high greenery etc. have an extremely significant and positive impact on the urban environment, but above all on the urban community and the quality of life, especially during the pandemic. In such a case, the optimal structure of the canopy is particularly important. The paper presents synthetically the criteria that urban greenery should featured to provide a wide range of positive stimuli for positive importance for social health. Particularly significant is the optimal structure of greenery – non-schematic, free, reflecting the features of landscape style, which has a very close influence on the quality of leisure. The conclusion synthetically presents criteria by which urban greenery should be characterized for relaxation and recreation, defining fundamental issues related to its maintenance. To ensure that the health-promoting effects of greenery are effective, proper maintenance and care must be provided.

W pierwszej kolejności określono problematykę i sformułowano główny cel badań. Następnie przeprowadzono kwerendę literatury przedmiotu, aby zgromadzić przykłady dotyczące kluczowej roli parków miejskich, lasów i drzew dla jakości życia w miastach, zwłaszcza w kontekście pandemii COVID-19.
