The submitted paper focuses on the use and significance of a specific type of narrative sources, specifically the book Čechy. Společnou prací spisovatelův a umělců českých (“Bohemia by Shared Work of Czech Writers and Artists”) issued by the publishing house of Jan Otto between 1883-1908, for acquiring knowledge about the landscape of dowry towns and their near vicinity and for understanding of how authors of the studied texts perceived the term dowry towns.

The paper deals with historical and geographic aspects of the development of the royal dowry town of Jaroměř and its domain which Jaroměř citizens started building in the early 16th century. The look of the local historic landscape, especially for the pre-White Mountain period, has been reconstructed and the way how natural conditions influenced the town prosperity was studied.
