This study was focused on research of the value orientation of blood donors. The aim of this work is to find out the differences in separate value orientations between donors and non-donors, first-time donors and multiple donors. One hundred and forty-two respondents participated in the survey, namely seventy-one blood donors and seventy-one non-donors. A demographic questionnaire for blood donors and non-donors and a PVQ 40 questionnaire of value orientation was used as research tools. The results confirmed the differences towards power and success value orientations between donors and non-donors. As was assumed, the differences between the donors and non-donors in regard to stimulation, hedonism, self-determination, tradition, conformance, and safety value orientations were not confirmed. The differences between first-time donors and multiple donors in benevolence and universalism value orientations were not confirmed.

Cieľom práce bolo zisťovanie rozdielov v jednotlivých hodnotových orientáciách medzi darcami a nedarcami krvi, prvodarcami a viacnásobnými darcami. Výskumný súbor tvorilo 142 respondentov, 71 darcov krvi a 71 nedarcov krvi. Ako výskumné nástroje boli použité: demografický dotazník vo verzii pre darcov a nedarcov krvi a Dotazník hodnotovej orientácie PVQ 40. Výsledky výskumu potvrdili rozdiely medzi darcami a nedarcami krvi v hodnotovej orientácií moc a úspech, v prospech nedarcov krvi. V súlade s predpokladmi neboli zistené rozdiely medzi darcami a nedarcami krvi v hodnotových orientáciách: stimulácia, hedonizmus, sebaurčenie, tradícia, konformita a bezpečie. Nepotvrdili sa rozdiely medzi prvodarcami a viacnásobnými darcami v hodnotovej orientácií benevolencia a univerzalizmus.

It is noted that in the context of globalization of the modern world the dialogue between different cultures is an essential requirement of the XXI century. Social barriers that impede the development of intercultural dialogue, which can not be carried out subject to the socio-cultural identity of various ethnic groups, nations and countries, are characterized. The modern paradigm of intercultural dialogue is based on the recognition of the increasing role of national culture and open, trusting, friendly interchange of cultural values in a multicultural society.

Purposeful development, professional formation of the personality is impossible without defining the socio-cultural values of society. Today future teachers face the task of choosing the right worldview priorities, benchmarks, self-determination, the awareness of responsibility for their actions before society. That is why along with the overall professional competence the teacher faces the challenge of assimilation and appropriation of the future teachers’ ethnic and cultural values and applies them in professional activity. In the preparation of the future educator it appears the space in which develops social activity of the personality, subject-subject interaction, a system of value orientations. Therefore, it is a practice-oriented approach that was chosen as the most productive in solving the problem of assimilation and appropriation by the students of ethno-cultural values. A practice-oriented approach we consider as an active form of organization of professional training of the future teachers, which is used in theoretical and practical training components and is implemented in the process of active students practice in preschool. Work with students was carried out in the process of studying the discipline “Preschool education”. A practice-oriented approach was implemented using the model that includes the target, content and technological components. The target component defines the direction of the educational work on familiarizing students with ethno-cultural values and national traditions. Contextual components built with regard of knowledge and skills of students acquired during the study of theoretic-methodological basis of professional disciplines. Technology component included implementation of forms and methods of interaction between the student and the child of preschool age. A practice-oriented approach contributed to the students’ awareness of the essence of ethno-pedagogic achievements, gain experience of teaching and upbringing of preschool children.

Research has shown that the popularity of extreme sports is on the rise in Hungary just as in developed countries. While we cannot question the influence of the press, it is very likely that shifts and changes in the value orientation of a society also play an important role in fostering the process. In the first stage of the present study, the value orientation of a group of Hungarian people involved in action sports is mapped where the values are arranged into a latent structure using principal component analysis. In the second stage of research, it is checked whether the examined group is a homogenous community regarding their value orientations, and researchers examine if two variables - age and gender - significantly influence the value orientations of the respondents. Our conclusion is that there is little difference between group members regarding their high preferences for community values and the low preferences for traditional values, but age and gender significantly influence respondents’ attitudes to post-materialist values and partially those to materialist values. Younger participants report higher preferences for both materialist and postmaterialist values, while females attribute higher importance to post-materialist values.

This contribution brings a selection from the results of a research carried out during the years 2013 and 2014 among Czech and Slovak pupils of middle school age (i.e. 4th to 6th forms of primary schools). This study focused on monitoring and evaluating the differences and similarities in the value-oriented responses of pupils, according to the criteria of their nationality and sex. The pupils were expressing their opinions by means of a questionnaire survey with respect to selected situations on a four-degree scale and they further stated their vision of the world and their position in it. This contribution analyses statistically significant deviations which were found out among the positions held by Czech and Slovak boys and girls. The contribution also gives rise to a number of questions concerning the shift in values among the population of pupils of the formerly unified state.

Objectives. The present study aimed to investi-gate the generational and gender differences in narcissism score, and value orientation among Slovakian generations Y and Z.Sample and settings. The sample of the research consisted of 955 participants, 192 men and 763 women. Generation Y consisted of 501 respon-dents and generation Z consisted of 454 respon-dents. The 16-Item Narcissistic Personality In-ventory and Portrait Values Questionnaire were administered.Hypotheses. The score of narcissism is higher in generation Z compared to generation Y and there are no differences in the value preference between these generations. There is a positive relationship between the narcissism score and individualistic values and negative relationship between narcissism score and collectivist va-lues.Statistical analyses. Descriptive statistics: per-centage, averages and standard deviations. In-ferential statistics: ANOVA, Pearson corelation analysis, Z-test for independent samples, mul-tiple linear regression. The obtained data were analyzed by SPSS.Results. The results revealed higher narcissi-sm scores among generation Y in comparison to generation Z, with men having a higher rate of narcissism. The results indicated differen-ces between the generations and gender in the preference for the values of power, hedonism, stimulation, benevolence, universalism and se-curity. The data supported significant positive relationship between narcissism and individu-alistic values; negative relationship between narcissism and collectivist values, regardless of gender and generation. The preference for indi-vidualistic values was predicted by the narcissi-sm and generation; within collectivism, only the narcissism proved to be a significant predictor.Limitations. The limitations result from data collection, research design, the nature of the re-search group and the methods used. The results are valid for the researched group only.

The phenomenon of party system polarization has been relatively neglected in the Czech political science literature so far. Thus, one of the objectives of this article is to present a concise summary of theoretical approaches, analytical practices and research methodology towards party polarization. To analyse party polarization the authors use one of the possible methods, party elite polarization, which Sartori and Sani introduced (1983). The study measures party elite polarization via questions on value self-placement on the L-R scale of the Czech party leaders of the established parties during the General Election Campaign in 2013. Evaluation of the commonly used self-identification techniques and presentation of quantitative results of the party elite polarization during the Czech election in 2013 is therefore the main motive of this article. Using statistical methods the authors fi nd out that not all commonly perceived polarizing issues really prove to polarize party elites.

Pomaga to także instytucjom edukacyjnym znaleźć właściwe kierunki i metody oddziaływania w celu zmaksymalizowania siły zawodowych nauczycieli w naszej krajowej edukacji.

Background and study aim. Research on value orientation, whether general or focused on a population of university students, is a complex issue involving philosophical, psychological, sociological and educational dimensions. The fundamental question of our research was whether it is possible to influence the value preferences of students in subjects and discourses other than philosophy, ethics and the humanities and social sciences in the broader sense. Methods. For the purposes of this exploratory research, a winter expedition course (snow shoeing and camping), part of the curriculum at the Faculty of Physical Culture, Palacky University Olomouc, Czech Republic was chosen. To determine any changes in the perception of values in the research group (n = 27), the Q-sorting method with forced selection of 18 items (values) was applied. Data was collected twice; a month prior to the course and immediately after the completion of the course. Results and conclusions. The research suggested that the greatest shift towards higher importance was in the category “a Peaceful world”. This could be particularly explained by the programme’s focus and the geographical- cultural environment of the expedition (references to World War II events in the terrain). On the opposite end of the scale, less important items after the course included “Happiness” and “a Comfortable life”, which might be associated with the need to overcome discomfort and pain while hiking through a winter landscape, with its natural impact on self-reflection and ideas about one’s own life path.

Tło i cel badania. Wyniki i wnioski. Można to wytłumaczyć w szczególności ukierunkowaniem programowym i geograficzno-kulturowym środowiskiem wyprawy (odniesienia do wydarzeń II wojny światowej w terenie).

The article contains a handful of reflections on selected methodological aspects of public policy sciences. However, the clarity of presentation requires a reference to issues that go beyond strictly methodological matters. In particular, it was deemed important to invoke the arguments focused arou nd the theoretical status of research on public policies. The first part of the paper comprises an account of the theoretical and methodological status of public policy sciences. In order to illustrate the ongoing debate on whether or not they constitute a scientific discipline, arguments espoused both by its proponents and opponents have been presented. The second part contains a summary of the central strands of research pursued on the basis of public policy studies and their dominant methodological orientations. The final part of the article outlines rudimentary theoretical and methodological dilemmas faced by public policy sciences.
