The attentional blink(AB) is a deficit in reporting the second (T2) of two targets (T1, T2) when presented in close temporal succession and within a stream of distractor stimuli. The AB has received a great deal of attention in the past two decades because it allows to study the mechanisms that influence the rate and depth of information processing in various setups and therefore provides an elegant way to study correlates of conscious perception in supra-threshold stimuli. Recently evidence has accumulated suggesting that oscillatory signals play a significant role in temporally coordinating information between brain areas. This review focuses on studies looking into oscillatory brain activity in the AB. The results of these studies indicate that the AB is related to modulations in oscillatory brain activity in the theta, alpha, beta, and gamma frequency bands. These modulations are sometimes restricted to a circumscribed brain area but more frequently include several brain regions. They occur before targets are presented as well as after the presentation of the targets. We will argue that the complexity of the findings supports the idea that the AB is not the result of a processing impairment in one particular process or brain area, but the consequence of a dynamic interplay between several processes and/or parts of a neural network.

According to the general theory of attention the selective function creates the perceptive and cognitive fractions. Conversely the controlling function creates behavioural and immanent fractions. Particular connection with visual attention has the perceptive function. It as two types such as an exploratory attention and as a penetrative attention. Former guides the process of focusing areas of retina with an existing image onto the central area ranking them accordingly with their physical properties such as density, contrast, motion, etc. The penetrative attention constantly creates a program of an object’s identification comprised of memory imprints and current spacial relation between the observed object and the observing eye. The cognitive attention supports only processing of imagering. It doesn’t involve oculomotoric activity. The full text of the article explores as well relationships between visual attention and phenomenons of classic psychology: Perky’s effect, eidetic imagery and alternative figures and silhouettes.

The goal of this study is to investigate the influence of using the typographic cues on the effi-ciency of solving the algorithmic problem. The study was conducted on a group of 48 school age students of a third form of lower secondary school. Eye movement data were collected during the study. There was observed a slight reduction in execution time and a higher percentage of correct answers in the case of the task with cues. The eye tracking parameters did not differ significantly. The research results positively verifies the potential role of cueing students’ visual attention during solving an algorithmic task.

The article will present a part of the research in which was used a device called an eye-tracker applied for tracing eyeball movoments of a tested person. At present modern measurement instruments enable broadening of the realm the empirical research in various fields of science. Rising availability of technologically advanced devices arouses interest a eye-tracking method in education also among Polish researchers. The application of the mentioned method seems to be particularly justified in the research on the process of solving mathematical tasks which require visual analysis of the data presented graphically. This study mainly aimed at the analysing visual attention during solving a mathematical single-choice task by of different mathematical experience.
