The article reveals the essence of volunteering as a factor of development of social activity of the individual. It identifies the key characteristics of volunteer work and especially its organization. The basic types of volunteer activities: • remuneration. Volunteers must not engage in volunteer activities mainly for financial profit, and any financial reimbursement should be less than the value of the work performed. • goodwill. Although the motivation to participate in volunteer activities may always consist of several reasons including pressure from colleagues (or parents) and debt to society, yet these activities should be carried out voluntarily, without coercion. • brought favor. Must be a beneficiary – charity care (individual, non-profit organization or community) receiving assistance from one or several donors. • the organizational structure. Volunteering can be organized or unorganized, carried out individually or in groups, public or private organizations. There are several types of volunteering: • mutual aid or self-help. People engage in voluntary activities to help other members of the same social group or community. • charity or service for the benefit of others. The primary beneficiary is not a member of the group member is a volunteer, and the third party. • participation and government. The role of individuals in the administration – from representation in government advisory bodies to participation in local development projects. • education or promotion of any questions concerning certain groups. It is concluded that today volunteers are the people who are not limited to paid work and normal life duties, and spend time and effort on things that do not bring them material gain. They do it because their work is useful to others and brings satisfaction to themselves.

Hospice volunteering is s special kind of voluntary service. According to research, an average age of hospice volunteers is higher that an average age of volunteers in other types of voluntary services (Przewłocka, 2011; Seredyńska, 2018). However, it does not mean that there are no young persons in hospices, especially when one remembers that contact with the sick and dying allows people to realize the most important things in life and to gain a more realistic view of their limitations. So, it can be said that the environment of hospice voluntary service offers valuable upbringing and educational opportunities. The paper is based on the analysis of subject literature and address several upbringing and educational aspects connected with the environment of hospice voluntary service. These aspects include the analysis of hospice volunteering which educates for accepting: the central position of God in human life, death as an integral part of life, weaknesses and limitations in the maturing process, and the attitude of ‘imagination of mercy’ towards the sick and dying. Other educational and upbringing environments do not confront a person with these aspects of life to such an extent.

The main issue I take in this article is to find the answer to this question: why some members of our society (society, who is addicted to consumerism) are able to help another selflessly? Who are they, what motivates them? Why in the world, where the most important thing is the pursuit of wealth, there is a large group of people, who finds time for reflection and selfless help? Perhaps there are some personality traits, catholic ethics or socialization, which teach us empathy? It could be a lot of reasons why people decide to be a volunteer. I am going to find the common features, which connect those people.

Theories which explain the phenomenon of voluntary service by pointing to individual attributes can be grouped into those that emphasize motives and those that emphasize rational action and cost-benefit analysis. Age and gender are features differentiating voluntary service and they are, to a great extent, associated with perception and understanding of human capital and social resources. The present considerations focus on the context of effects related with volunteering. Attention was also payed to the varied impact of organizations and communities as well as of regional characteristics on individual decisions to volunteer which remains a fruitful field for exploration. The article presents volunteering as prosocial behavior at the example of the countries of the Iberian Peninsula.
The article is a voice in the discussion on difficulties and threats related to the involvement of volunteers in assistance activities. It presents theoretical definitions of basic issues as well as practical conclusions from the observation of voluntary activities. The stages of engaging volunteers in cooperation with non-governmental organizations or other institutions have been analyzed in detail. At any stage of the activity, problems may arise that require immediate reaction. The implications of diagnosing these adversities are the basis for more effective planning and development of volunteer activities in the sector. The subject matter is a contribution to complementing the fragmented pragmatic knowledge of voluntary activity in Poland. Bearing in mind that volunteering by providing individual human capital of volunteers favors the multiplication of general social capital, the signaled topic should be the subject of further inquiries.

The aim of the paper is to present the specificity of work of young volunteers in the service of children in the pandemic (types of activities they undertake, problems and benefits they and their pupils experience). The first part of the text presents theoretical assumptions of social and educational support for children. Volunteering in the pandemic in Poland in the third sector has been covered based on the latest research results and the activities of the Dialog Foundation in Białystok. The second part of the text shows methodological assumptions of qualitative research, which was conducted using the method of individual cases in March 2021 among volunteers of the Dialog Foundation. Chosen research results concerning the social and educational support provided to children during the pandemic by young volunteers have been showed. In the light of the results of my research, social and educational support provided to Foundation’s pupils by volunteers is of great importance in their daily functioning during the pandemic, prevents school failures and reduces the feeling of loneliness. The results of the research may hopefully contribute to the development of educational research in regard to the functioning of volunteering in aid of children with educational and social deficits.
The phenomenon of voluntary work is a very important element in individual and social life. Considering the problem from individual perspective, the author made an empirical attempt to find the answers to the following research questions: What motives to get engaged in voluntary work guided the subjects? Is there a significant generational difference as for the preferred motives? The study was conducted in a group of 60 volunteers (83.3% of women) who represented three stages of adulthood: early, middle, and late adulthood. Two examination tools were applied: a survey examining the motives for becoming a volunteer, and a form for personal details. The obtained data were analysed with the application of percentage distributions.
The article presents the theoretical justification and analysis of volunteering activities as a way to professional self-determination of a future social worker. It was determined that for a harmonious development of a future social worker and awareness of a first-year student of his/her professional realization it is necessary: to participate actively in volunteering activities (organizing and conducting fundraisers, special assistance, animators actions); personal assistance in finding and transferring funds to people who need them (search for sponsors, patrons, caring people); creation and implementation of scientific-practical projects in social work; fulfilment of such functions as a mentor, an assistant (for people, groups, societies, and associations) as required. The study used the following research methods: theoretical (analysis of scientific and methodological literature on the problems of defining the professional competence of a social worker and aspects of volunteering activities to find out the state of elaboration of the researched problem and definition of concepts and categories; generalization and prediction in the formulation of conclusions and rationale of volunteering activities as a way of professional self-determination of a future social worker); empirical (pedagogical supervision over the organization of volunteering activities and professional skills of future social workers). It is proved that a social worker, as any other person can perform the functions of the volunteer, but he/she does it professionally, which corresponds the education he/she gained. It is indicated that volunteer participation in the social life of the Institute, city, country, provides professional self-determination, personal fulfillment, and moral-spiritual development of the student’s individual and enables him/her to feel a competent, important, needed, fulfilled professional. On the perspective ofongoing academic research, we would like to mention that the social project “Make a child’s dream real” will continue to its full extent according to volunteers’ organizational capabilities and the involvement capacities of the new participants to broaden the direction of the students’ volunteerism. For today there are creative students’ sketches of social ad being worked out, for the purpose of drawing attention to problems of kids with cancer and help to patients of hematological department of Kirovograd regional pediatric hospital.

In these hard times, where money rules the world and higher feelings very often do not matter anymore, every nucleus of goodness and kindness counts. The sower of these feelings is a volunteer who, through his selfless and unpaid work, sacrifices their life and time to help others. The need to get people involved in volunteering is huge, because there are a lot of people in need. It is important that the benefits that flow from volunteer work can be mutual. Gaining new professional experience, satisfying your need for self-realization and the opportunity to acquire new friendships and increase the sense of community are just some of the positive aspects that volunteer work brings. The study presents the results of research carried out in spring 2018 by people working in the Student Volunteers’ Scientific Club, operating at the Faculty of Social Sciences at UJW in Polkowice. They concerned the involvement of students of pedagogy in volunteering activities.

W człowieku występuje sympatia do ludzi, często bezinteresowna, którą można zaobserwować w pracy streetworkera. W części teoretycznej niniejszego opracowania wyjaśniono pojęcie pracy, motywu, motywacji prospołecznej oraz podano jej rodzaje. W dalszej kolejności przedstawiono definicję streetworkingu i terminu „streetworker”. Część empiryczna zawiera badania autorskie nad motywami wolontariuszy do pracy w streetworkingu.

Wśród chrześcijańskich wolontariuszy na wyrazy szczególnego uznania zasługują Rycerze Kolumba, którzy swoimi licznymi dziełami bronią fundamentalnych zasad etycznych i niosą pomoc potrzebującym. Organizacja powstała z inicjatywy ks. Michaela J. McGivneya w New Haven, w stanie Connecticut w USA w 1882 r., aby służyć swoim członkom braterską pomocą i wspierać ich rodziny. Obecnie Bractwo liczy 1,8 miliona członków zgromadzonych w ponad 14 tysiącach rad na całym świecie. W Polsce organizacja liczy ponad 2 tysiące członków. Działalność charytatywna Rycerzy Kolumba pod mottem „W służbie jednemu, w służbie wszystkim” obejmuje donacje charytatywne w wysokości 170 milionów USD i 70 milionów godzin wolontariackiej pracy rocznie. Organizacja założona wśród ubóstwa, inspirowana natchnieniami Ducha Świętego trwa, czyniąc dobro, szczególnie najmniejszym braciom i siostrom Jezusa Chrystusa (por. Mt 25,40).

"Volunteerism" is a wide term to describe altruistic behaviours or activities to promote human goodness, well-being, and integrity. Christian people have always been encouraged to follow Christ, who went around doing good (Acts 10: 38). Among Christian volunteers special recognition is due to the Knights of Columbus, who through numerous activities humbly defend basic values. The Organization, founded by Rev. Michael J. McGivney in New Haven, CT in 1882, provides its members with brotherly support and help for their families. At present the organization of the Knights of Columbus is built on more than 1.8 million members, united in more than 14, 000 councils worldwide, including Poland. Currently, the Fraternity every year contributes to charitable works $170 million and 70 million hours of volunteer labour under the motto, "In Service to One, in Service to All". The history of the Order is a history of service, a history of responding to a variety of needs. The Order stands up for the "Culture of Life" and life-affirming laws against abortion, euthanasia and physician assisted suicide, and medical procedures that violate human life. The Knights promote a "Culture of Inclusion" by support for people living with disabilities, confirming that they are significant and welcomed. Serving a "Culture of Love" brother Knights offer food to the hungry, warm clothes for the needy, shelter for the homeless, and help for those affected by tragic occurrences or natural disasters. Knights advocate "Healthy Culture", the Christian roots and identity of Western civilization, and believe in the renewal of society by the promotion of lasting values and principles. The Order, founded in poverty and inconvenience, and inspired by the Holy Spirit, goes on with good deeds, especially to the least of brothers and sisters (Matthew 25: 40) of Jesus Christ.
Organizational commitment is a process thanks to which the employees identify themselvespersonally with the effects, changes and daily decisions of the company, and thus, are more satisfied and effective at work (Ketchum, Trist, 1992; Mosadeghrad, Febrile, Rosenberg, 2008, Salman, Pourmehdi, Hamidi, 2014). The volunteer work, as unpaid, by definition requires a higherdegree of organizational commitment in terms of both emotional and normative commitment.Group and research tools: 69 volunteers from the „Szlachetna Paczka” project in the Rzeszówregion took part in the research. All subjects were adults. There were 50 women in the sample, which constituted 72.5% of the respondents. 56.5% of the respondents were volunteers, the restwere volunteers-leaders. The study used the Polish version of the Commitment to Organization byMeyer and Allen in the adaptation of Bańka, Wołoska and Bazińska (2002). Statistical analysisshowed that gender does not differentiate the level of volunteer involvement. The level of organizational commitment correlates with the role in the organization (volunteer-leader) and seniority.

56,5% badanych to wolontariusze, pozostałą część stanowili wolontariusze-liderzy. W badaniu zastosowano polską wersję Skali Przywiązania do Organizacji autorstwa Meyera i Allen w adaptacji Bańki, Wołoskiej i Bazińskiej (2002). Poziom zaangażowania organizacyjnego koreluje z pełnioną rolą w organizacji (wolontariuszlider) i stażem pracy.
