Wytwórczość włókiennicza stanowiła jedno z podstawowych zajęć ludności zamieszkującej Dolne Łużyce w okresie przejścia od produkcji rękodzielniczej do maszynowej. Ze względów technicznych opracowanie zostało podzielone na dwie części. W prezentowanej, pierwszej, dokonano analizy stanu zatrudnienia rękodzielników i pracowników fabrycznych, edukacji zawodowej, kwestii socjalnych oraz charakterystyki produkcji tekstylnej w regionie od włączenia Dolnych Łużyc do Prus w 1815 r. do wybuchu II wojny światowej.

In 1837, the authorities of Szadek published an announcement in German, advertising the city as a place favourable to industrial settlement. This advertisement was part of a wideranging action of the government of the Kingdom of Poland aimed at development of textile manufacturing in the Kingdom. Immigration of qualified workforce was seen as an important element of the planned development of the textile industry. The pro-immigration policy of the government resulted in the appearance on Polish territories of many new industrial settlements. Regrettably, Szadek – in 16th century a leading centre of textile production – did not find itself among the towns which took advantage of the favourable situation entering the path of quick economic and demographic growth. The 1837 advertisement provides a description of Szadek at that time. But the result was disappointing and this town with impressive traditions became one of those settlements which experienced a long-lasting stagnation.

Celem artykułu jest ustalenie pochodzenia nazw pepitki w językach europejskich. W tekście przedstawia się pokrótce historię tego coraz bardziej popularnego w ostatnich latach deseniu. Główną część artykułu stanowi omówienie określeń pepitki z perspektywy semazjologicznej, którą przyjmuje się z uwagi na fakt, że w językach Europy można wyróżnić kilka grup nazw na podstawie dosłownego znaczenia każdej z nich. Polskie określenia pepitki zostały przejęte z języków: niemieckiego, francuskiego i angielskiego jako zapożyczenia właściwe lub strukturalne.

The aim of the article is to determine the etymology of the names of houndstooth in European languages. A short history of this pattern, more and more popular in recent years, is presented in the text. The main part of the article consists of discussing the designations of houndstooth from a semasiological perspective. This perspective was adopted due to the fact that, in European languages, one can distinguish between several groups of names based on the literal meaning of every name. Polish designations of houndstooth were taken from the German, French and English languages as loanwords or calques.

Artykuł ukazuje różnorodność zabytkowych kołowrotków przędzalniczych w województwie śląskim. Opowiadając o kołowrotkach, możemy mówić nie tylko o myśli technicznej i kunszcie rzemieślników, ale również o lokalnej tożsamości czy dramatycznych zawirowaniach historii. W 2020 roku, dzięki uprzejmości ponad 30 instytucji na terenie województwa śląskiego (oraz kilku spoza województwa), przeanalizowano budowę ponad 200 zabytkowych kołowrotków. Artykuł rozpoczyna opis historii rozwoju kołowrotka przędzalniczego, uzasadniając kolejne innowacje i wyjaśniając ich funkcje. Następnie przedstawia nazewnictwo oraz popularną typologię kołowrotków, ukazując powiązania nazw z miejscami ich domniemanego pochodzenia lub użytkowania. Następnie przedstawiono propozycję szczegółowej typologii według wspólnych cech budowy stelaży kołowrotków. W ostatniej części zamieszczono schematy podzespołów wraz z opisami oraz wybór nazw regionalnych, potocznych i anglojęzycznych.

The article shows the diversity of historic spinning wheels in the Silesia Province. Spinning wheels illustrate not only a technical thought and craftsmanship. They also can illustrate local identity, dramatic turbulences of history etc. In 2020, thanks to the courtesy of over 30 institutions in the Silesia Province (and several from outside the province), the construction of over 200 historic spinning wheels was analyzed. On that basis this article was written. It begins with a description of the history of spinning wheel development, justifying further innovations and explaining their functions. Then the study presents the names and popular typology of wheels, showing the connections of its names with places of its alleged origin or use. Next part is a proposal of a detailed typology, according to their frame construction. The last part contains component diagrams with descriptions and a selection of regional, colloquial and English names.

Abstract: This article raises the issue of identification weaving workshops in the Lusatian culture based on archaeological, archaeozoological and archaeobotanical sources. Within the archaeological sources were used, amongst others, decoration motifs on the Lusatian culture vessels from Greater Poland, which may indicate the existence of these workshops.
