The opening thesis of the article is the conviction that the experience of women during the January Uprising had a considerable influence on the development of the emancipation process in Poland. On the one hand, it accelerated the moment of women articulating emancipation demands; on the other hand, their participation in the national uprising and the experience they gathered had a considerable influence on the direction of the social discourse on the perception of women’s roles during military operations.
