The Polish literature of 1945-1989 - compared to many countries of Europe and America - is characterised by relatively poor use of inspirations arising from the psychoanalytical tradition. After 1989, this situation was partially changed. Devoting a monographic, double issue of "Teksty Drugie" ("Second Texts") to the phenomenon of the Return of psychoanalysis - which was its illustrative subtitle - may be regarded as extremely characteristic for the reception of the idea of Sigmund Freud in new Polish political and cultural reality. In the presented article, several prose texts written in the 1990s (by, among others, Olga Tokarczuk,Małgorzata Saramonowicz or Joanna Bator) were analysed, in which we observe rather clear references to many theses of the author of Introduction to psychoanalysis and his successors. Some of the literary works were interpreted in the context of intersexuality. Frequent - more or less explicit - references to various works of Freud (and of his successors, continuators, revisionists or polemicists) some times take on the character of inter-textual references, with which the analysed prose seems to match the literary trend which was distinctive for the Polish output of the 1990s.

The article presents the work of the Szczecin writer, Artur Daniel Liskowacki, in a postcolonial perspective. This author became famous for his novel Eine kleine, but he has published several books on the issues of German cultural memory in Polish Szczecin, or more broadly – in the former German lands. A different subject is characteristic of his novel Murzynek B., which describes the issues of exoticism, racial and ethnic stereotypes, especially related to the figure of a black person (Negro) in Polish culture. These so different works, however, are linked by the perspective of the reflection on the Stranger/Other, xenophobia and the construction of Polish identity constituted in the face of dissimilarity. Therefore, Liskowacki’s work was presented as postcolonial writing – aestheticizing the key issue of critical reflection on colonial relations, in the broad sense of the term.

Artykuł przedstawia twórczość szczecińskiego pisarza, Artura Daniela Liskowackiego, w optyce postkolonialnej. Autor ten zasłynął powieścią Eine kleine, ma jednak na swoim koncie kilka książek traktujących o problematyce niemieckiej pamięci kulturowej w polskim Szczecinie czy szerzej – na ziemiach poniemieckich. Odmienną tematyką cechuje się jego powieść Murzynek B. poświęcona kwestiom egzotyzmu, stereotypów rasowych i etnicznych, szczególnie związanych z figurą Murzyna w kulturze polskiej. Te tak różne dzieła łączy jednak perspektywa rozważań nad Obcym/Innym, ksenofobią i konstrukcją polskiej tożsamości konstytuowanej wobec odmienności. Dlatego też twórczość Liskowackiego zaprezentowana została jako pisarstwo postkolonialne – dokonujące estetyzacji kluczowej problematyki krytycznego namysłu nad relacjami kolonialnymi, w szerokim sensie tego pojęcia.

The article is an analysis of the well-known and popular novel by Jerzy Sosnowski – “Apocrypha of Aglaya”. Although the problem of the unusual complexity of the story and the mystery of the sense within it is usually raised, the author of the article believes that the work can be examined with simple analytical tools, without resorting to analytical instruments more complex than those used at school. Obviously “Apocrypha of Aglaya” draws on various traditions and conventions, but it is generally based on known plot patterns. However, it is original and valuable, it contains important statements about the modern condition of man, without ceasing to be a romance and a thriller. The article is methodologically structuralist and opposes postmodern research trends.

This article discusses references to Polish literary works found in novels by Poznań-based author Małgorzata Musierowicz (born 1945). The protagonists of the 22-volume Jeżycjada series are literature lovers. They often quote famous Polish writers, from Ignacy Krasicki to another writer from Poznań – Marek Obarski (1947–1997). Quotations from literature, thanks to their wide platform of dissemination through school, songs and films, become part of the reproduced content category (reproduced word-groups). The novels by M. Musierowicz are also a platform of dissemination for Polish literary fiction.

This article discusses the writing of Ziemowit Szczerek in the context of its genre credentials as travel reportage. Because Szczerek’s work can be read as literary reportage, this article addresses the controversy over the genre’s referentiality and literary status. It also discusses gonzo journalism, which was a source of inspiration for Szczerek, as well as creative devices that problematize issues of fictionality in reportage in reference to themes of imagined geography (E. W. Said), cultural self-stereotypes and hetero-stereotypes, and intertextual relations. The argument leads to the claim that Szczerek’s literary reportage is deeply embedded in creative fiction, perhaps in the vein of Andrzej Stasiuk’s work, and that this only enhances the value of his work.

Artykuł przedstawia pisarstwo Ziemowita Szczerka w kontekście gatunkowych kwalifikacji jako reportaż podróżniczy. Twórczość tę można odczytać jako przykłady reportażu literackiego, w związku z czym zaprezentowano kwestie sporu o referencyjność i literackość gatunku, inspiracje dzieł Szczerka nurtem gonzo journalism oraz zabiegi twórcze problematyzujące kwestię fikcjonalności w reportażu poprzez odniesienie do problematyki geografii wyobrażonej (E.W. Said), kulturowych auto- i heterostereotypów oraz relacji intertekstualnych. Prowadzi to do stwierdzenia, że reportaże literackie Szczerka, podobnie jak pisarstwo podróżnicze Andrzeja Stasiuka, zanurzone są w fikcjotwórstwie, co tylko podnosi wartość literacką tej twórczości.

W artykule zostają przybliżone argumenty nieomawianej dotychczas szerzej w polskich badaniach debaty metodologicznej toczonej w ramach współczesnych adaptation studies. Autor opisuje trzy tendencje charakterystyczne dla najnowszych teorii adaptacji: metateoretyczne próby przeramowania pojęcia adaptacji, krytykę podejścia typu medium specificity oraz otwieranie się na konteksty kulturowe, społeczne i ekonomiczne. Zdaniem autora jednym z największych wyzwań stojących przed studiami nad adaptacją jest przełamanie obowiązującego w obrębie dyscypliny podziału na badania tekstualne i kontekstualne (na który zwracała uwagę Kamilla Elliott). Kategorią, która może stanowić pomost między ujęciami formalistycznymi a kulturoznawczymi, jest pojęcie dyskursu, które nie było dotąd przedmiotem poważnej debaty w ramach dyscypliny. Posługując się przykładami polskich adaptacji z ostatnich lat, autor wskazuje na możliwe sposoby zastosowania tej kategorii w badaniach porównawczych.

The article presents the methodological debate in contemporary adaptation studies, which has not been discussed in greater detail in Polish research. The author describes three trends characteristic of the latest adaptation theories: metatheoretical attempts to reframe the notion of adaptation, criticism of medium-specificity approach, opening up to cultural, social and economic contexts. According to the author, one of the greatest challenges that adaptation studies faces is to overcome the discipline’s division into textual and contextual research (which was noticed by Kamilla Elliott). A category that could link formalistic and cultural approaches is, as the author argues, the category of discourse, which has not been the subject of a broader debate within the discipline so far. Referring to the examples of the latest Polish film adaptations, the author indicates possible ways of applying the concept of discourse in comparative studies.
