With the reference to the article of W. Łysiak Studies and Design aimed at Reconditioning of Ancient Fortifications in the Toum of Capua, Italy („Ochrona zabytków”, 4, 1973, pp. 261—270) the letter signed by Mr. Paul Philippot, Director of International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and the Restoration of Cultural Property, Rome, has been received by the Editor of this Quarterly the basic part of which we feel to be obliged to make known to our Readers as an indispensable clarification: The published study on the fortifications of Capua was completed as a part of a more comprehensive study on the historic centre of Capua by the participants of the “Architectural Conservation Course” in 1971. Together with four other colleagues architect Łysiak formed a group which was predominantly interested in the suvey and the analysis of the old city walls. Regarding the organization and the succesive phases of the work, all the inofrmation is given in our publication “II centro antico di Capua” (Brock — Giuliani — Moisescu). ' The “Architectural Conservation Course” is a specialized postgraduate course for architects, engineers, archeologists, etc. organized by the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and the Restoration of Cultural Property in collaboration with the Faculty of Architecture, Scuola di Perfezionamento per lo studio e il restauro dei monumenti, of the University of Rome. The Centre has originally been founded by UNESCO as an autonomous intergovernmental institution, but is in no sense a department or section of UNESCO as stated in the article of M. Łysiak.
