In the article the author makes an attempt to describe the functions of music in youths’ everyday life. The article consists of four parts. In the first section, the main social functions of music are presented, such as integrative, aesthetic, communicational and educational. Then, the methodological framework of the author’s research is discussed (qualitative study based on in-depth interviews, accompanied by focus group interviews and observations). The third part of the article is devoted to the presentation of the main functions of music in the everyday life of Warsaw’s adolescents, as revealed by the research. Finally, in the last section, a conclusion is drafted that what seems particularly interesting in the results is the marginalization of the resistance and protest-oriented function of music, especially in comparison to the importance and visibility of its aesthetic function, as well as integrative and emotional ones.

The paper aims to compare the challenges faced by youths of Radlinska’s generation with the young of today, posing questions about what triggered the increased energy, agency and activism of the young of the interwar period and asks if it could be utilised by current pedagogical ‘forces’ in Poland. The focus is placed on teachers’ education and emerging new systems of tuition, as well as the extraordinary achievements of the social pedagogue of the interwar period – Helena Radlinska. The article is a modified and updated version of an excerpt from the book entitled: 'Invisible environment' (Witkowski, 2014) published in Polish language by Impuls. The idea of revisiting this theme was triggered by the upcoming celebration of the 100 years anniversary of the Independence of Poland (1918)

Cybercrime in Nigeria is largely perpetrated by young people and students in tertiary institutions, and are socially tagged yahoo yahoo or yahoo boys. Yahoo boys rely on their computer dexterity to victimise unsuspecting persons in cyberspace. A new phenomenon in cybercrime is mixing spiritual elements with internet surfing to boost cybercrime success rates. This paper examines the factors underlying this spiritual dimension (cyber spiritualism) to cybercrime, and discusses some of the strategies employed in perpetuating cyber crime. Using Space Transition Theory of cybercrime, data were generated on yahoo boys and those involved in yahoo plus. The clampdown on Internet fraudsters by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), in-group conflict among yahoo boys over social recognition, reduced victimisation and delayed success, and mass media enlightenment were reported factors influencing the fusion of spiritual elements in cyber crime. The methods used include ase or mayehun (incontrovertible order), charmed or magical rings (oruka-ere) and incisions made around the wrist, which are used to surf the net, while ijapa (tortoise) is used to navigate profitable sites. Unsuspecting victims fall under the spell of the ase via phone conversation where spiritual orders are made to the victims without their objecting.

The increased time spent using the Internet and smartphones is prevalent primarily among adolescents. This group is currently of particular interest to media educators and psychologists studying the impact of ICTs on quality of life. An example of the negative changes associated with the intensive computerisation of various spaces is the uncontrolled and inadequate use of the Internet, referred to as problematic Internet use (PUI). This text contributes to the discussion on the extent of PUI among adolescents (12–16 years) in the Czech Republic (N=1555), Poland (N=501), and Slovakia (N=478). Based on the collected data, it was found that: 1) Polish and Czech adolescents are similar in terms of the intensity of PUI symptoms (adolescents from Slovakia are characterised by lower levels of PUI); 2) The vast majority of young people do not exceed PUI thresholds that could be considered alarming; 3) Lack of sleep or neglecting meals in favour of Internet use are the least frequent factors in the study group; 4) Most often adolescents declare that they are bored when they do not have access to the Internet; 5) Adolescents are a nonhomogeneous group in terms of the intensity of occurrence of PUI traits, but only 0.3% of adolescents in the Czech Republic and 0.4% in Poland had all 6 PUI factors present in maximum intensity.

An unemployment rate is significantly higher than average (over 29% in a region). Weak educational infrastructure, no industry. Research was conducted from March 20’ to April 18’ 2013 on 2016 students in 18 schools (regular and technical high schools). The main aim of studies was characteristic of a-level and pre-a-level students from Grudziądz and Grudziądz region and their educational plans. We focused especially on plans regarding higher education. All public school students, from all the high schools, were participating in a research. The auditorial survey was a main used method.

In the world, more than 800,000 people commit suicide each year - average one person every 40 seconds. In Poland, suicide is the second cause of death among children and adolescents, after accidents. The basis of suicide decisions are many co-occurring factors, including demographic, socio-economic, psychological, disease or biological. Events and situations that would not be treated as problems for adults can be unbearable for young people. Raising public awareness about how many different factors can influence the decision to commit suicide may translate into sensitizing people to the problems of others. Costs of suicidal behavior for individuals, their families and society cause suicide to be a serious problem for the individual’s health, but also for public health.

According to the International Labour Organisation the world is facing a crisis of youth employment: young people are three times more likely to be unemployed than adults. According to ILO data we are dealing with a situation in which more than 75 million young people around the world are looking for job. The ILO speaks of ‘scarred generation’ of young people who are faced with a dangerous mix of high unemployment, progressive inactivity and precarious work in developed countries, as well as continuing high levels of poverty in developing countries. The article is an analysis of the debate, which took place during the 101 Session of the International Labour Conference in 2012, when the analysis of the situation of young people in the labour market and an attempt to develop recommendations were taken. The representatives of the social partners and governments from around the world took part.

The aim of this study is to find out whether an approach based on a game theoretical method may promote constructive collaborative conflict management among upper secondary school youth. An additional aim is to investigate how the young people involved in the study experience such an approach. It is an intervention study; the research material has been collected both before and after the intervention. The empirical material has been collected in Sweden using written reports and focus-group interviews. Both quantitative, as well as qualitative methods of analysis have been used. The results of the quantitative analysis demonstrate that the approach tried out in the study may enhance constructive collaborative conflict management. The qualitative analysis concerning the participants’ experience of using the approach show that the investigated approach is for the main part experienced as an asset but can also, in certain contexts, be seen as problematic.
