The author presents a project to secure the Leaning Tower, the one which was rejected in 1973 by the Ministry of Public Works, Italy, because it oid not meet the requirements of the competition. After presenting the short history of the Tower, the author estimates its durability for a t least next 50 years, but it is essential th a t it should be protected as soon as possible. The securing of the Tower should consist in the following: the Tower’s foundation broadening and the transmitting of its weight on greater depth into the ground where harder ground layers occur. The la tte r can be achieved by beating down piles under the Tower’s foundation. The author deals mainly with technical aspects of the project and comes to a conclusion that, with some improvements, it deserves to be realized. It may also initiate better solutions and thus contribute to historical monuments preservation.
