The article presented the instruments aimed at promoting lifelong learning for workers in the countries of the European Union and Poland and stimulating activities to take in this regard. There is a whole range of instruments, whose task is to facilitate access for workers to the various forms of lifelong learning that allows the systematic complementing or acquiring new skills. This diversity stems from the fact that the types of instruments that are used in different countries, and the extent of their use regulated by national legislation. The EU requires only that the actions taken in this regard in the individual Member States comply with the direction of the EU policy on lifelong learning. This solution allows for the adjustment of existing instruments not only to the needs of a particular country, but also in the region. In the paper, special attention was devoted to two instruments: training leaves and exemption from all or part the day's work.

W artykule zaprezentowane zostały instrumenty, mające na celu wspieranie kształcenia ustawicznego pracowników w krajach członkowskich Unii Europejskiej i w Polsce oraz stymulowanie podejmowania aktywności w tym zakresie. Istnieje cały szereg instrumentów, których zadaniem jest ułatwienie dostępu pracownikom do różnych form kształcenia ustawicznego pozwalającego na systematyczne uzupełnianie lub nabywanie nowych kwalifikacji zawodowych. Ta różnorodność wynika stąd, że rodzaje instrumentów, które stosowane są w poszczególnych krajach i zakres ich wykorzystania reguluje prawodawstwo krajowe. UE wymaga jedynie, aby działania podejmowane w tym zakresie w poszczególnych krajach członkowskich były zgodne z kierunkiem prowadzonej przez UE polityki dotyczącej kształcenia ustawicznego. Rozwiązanie takie pozwala do dopasowanie istniejących instrumentów nie tylko do potrzeb konkretnego kraju, ale również regionu. W artykule szczególna uwaga poświęcona została dwóm instrumentom: urlopom szkoleniowym i zwolnieniu z części lub całości dnia pracy.
