Artykuł jest poświęcony literackim reprezentacjom Łodzi, przełamując popularne mniemanie o braku obrazów tego miasta w literaturze. Stanowi propozycję wybranych spacerów po Łodzi szlakiem bohaterów literackich (m.in. po ulicy Piotrkowskiej, dzielnicy Bałuty, łódzkich nekropoliach, hotelach i kamienicach), a rozważania zostały tak poprowadzone, by pokazać, że przestrzeń miejska i przestrzeń literacka interferują.

The article discusses literary representations of Łódź, challenging the popular notion about the lack of portrayals of this city in the literature. It offers a selection of walk- ing tours of Łódź tracing literary characters (including Piotrowska Street, the Bałuty district, Łódź cemeteries, hotels, and tenement houses), and the argument presented in the papers aims to show that literary space and urban space are interlinked.

Artykuł jest interpretacją powieści Jerzego Limona Koncert Wielkiej Niedźwiedzicy. Kantata na jedną ulicę, siedem gwiazd i dwa głosy, będącej przykładem literatury zwrotu topograficznego. Powieść opowiada historię ulicy w Sopocie, przy której mieszka autor-narrator. Powieść określam mianem geohistoriograficznej, gdyż autor przedstawia w niej przestrzeń miasta — konkret geograficzny — jako tekst-palimpsest, w którym, warstwa po warstwie, odczytuje przeszłość.

This article provides an interpretation of the novel of Jerzy Limon Koncert Wielkiej Niedźwiedzicy. Kantata na jedną ulicę, siedem gwiazd i dwa głosy, which is an example of the literature of the topographical turn. This novel tells stories of one street in Sopot (Haffner street), where the author-narrator lives. This novel implements not only the assumptions of geo-poetics but may also be called geohistoriographic, since the author presents a geographic concrete, the space of a city as a conveyor of historic knowledge, for the geographic space is for Limon the text in which one may read the past. The subject matter of the novel is a street fulfilling just the function of a text, or actually text-palimpsest, which is composed with layers of meanings recorded by particular historic eras.

Tekst jest próbą analizy wybranej twórczości biograficznej polskich pisarek w kontekście kulturowych zwrotów – topograficznego i materialnego. Biografie takich autorek, jak m.in. Ewa Kuryluk, Agata Tuszyńska czy Joanna Olczak-Ronikier, stanowią przykłady narracji odzwierciedlających założenia historii nieantropocentrycznej, wedle której tożsamość człowieka budowana jest w relacji z rzeczami, a rzeczywistość materialna i cała sfera tego, co „nie-ludzkie”, odsłaniają nowe możliwości interpretacji ludzkiej egzystencji. Twórcze ambicje autorek biografii coraz częściej ukierunkowane są na poszukiwanie tego, co określić można jako antropoteocentryczny wymiar historii, w którym to, co „boskie”, nie ma charakteru religijnego czy moralnego, ale jest wyrazem konfrontacji badaczki z tajemnicą duchowych, pozamaterialnych wymiarów egzystencji człowieka. Biografizacja przestrzeni oraz uprzestrzennienie narracji biograficznych stają się w konsekwencji manifestem duchowego potencjału współczesnych dyskursów (auto)biograficznych.

The text is an attempt to analyse selected biographical works of Polish female writers in the context of cultural turns: the turn to materiality and the topographical turn. The biographies of authors such as Ewa Kuryluk, Agata Tuszyńska and Joanna Olczak-Ronikier constitute examples of narratives reflecting the foundations of non-anthropocentric history which stipulates that the human identity is built in relation with objects, and the material reality and the entire “nonhuman” sphere provide new possibilities for the interpretation of human existence. The creative aspirations of female authors of biographies are increasingly oriented towards the search for the anthropo-teo-centric aspect of history where the “divine” has no religious or moral nature but is an expression of the researcher’s confrontation with the mystery of spiritual, non-material aspects of human existence. In the consequence, biographisation of space and spatialisation of biographical narratives become a manifest of spiritual potential of modern (auto)biographical discourses.

An increased interest in space in the humanities can be referred to as a spatial, topographic or topological shift. This article is an attempt at organizing these concepts and defining the fundamental differences between them. Based on the findings of European and American researchers (including Edward Soja, Sigrid Weigel, Ernest W.B. Hess-Lüttich, and Joseph Hillis Miller) and a Polish literary scholar (Elizabeth Rybicka), the author tries to distinguish, and define the relationship, between spatial, topographic and topological shifts. This article was inspired by the terminological chaos in the Polish humanities.
