The article presents an analysis of the forms of address retrieved from Polish and Russian messages sent on postcards in the second half of the 20th century and at the beginning of the 21st century. The aim of the analysis is to present formal and pragmatic characteristics of the speech acts in question in a comparative perspective and to describe the functions performed by them in short epistolary texts. The study reveals, among others, that in both languages forms of address frequently consist of expressive adjectives and proper names. Along with other linguistic means (including widely used diminutive forms, hypocorisms and exclamation marks), they testify to the deeply private and emotional nature of the analysed correspondence.

Artykuł przedstawia analizę zwrotów adresatywnych występujących w polsko- i rosyjskojęzycznych wiadomościach przesyłanych na pocztówkach w drugiej połowie XX w. oraz na początku XXI w. Celem badania jest dokonanie formalno- oraz pragmatycznojęzykowej charakterystyki rozpatrywanych aktów mowy w ujęciu porównawczym oraz opis funkcji, jakie pełnią one w krótkich tekstach epistolarnych. Analiza dowodzi m. in., iż w obu językach najliczniej reprezentowane są zwroty zawierające w swojej treści ekspresywne przymiotniki oraz imiona własne. Wraz z innymi środkami językowymi (m. in. szeroko stosowanymi deminutywami, hipokorystykami i znakami wykrzyknienia) są one świadectwem prywatnego i wysoce emocjonalnego charakteru rozpatrywanej korespondencji.

The author of the article researches how Wincenty Pol was described in the letters he was sent to. The research corpus contained 98 letters addressed to Pol by a variety of senders, compiled by Zbigniew Sudolski in an anthology: Letters from our Land. Wincenty Pol’s Epistolography, 1826-1872. Of particular interest are the statistically significant forms of address: patron, professor, master, prophet, kin. The forms used for addressing Wincenty Pol depict him as e.g.: father of the nation and a prophet; an adored – if not worshipped – and respected professor. These forms confirm Suchodolski’s claim about the vital role of the author of Mohort in “shaping the culture of his times”. At same time, the expressions under analysis are a testimony of the rich language etiquette of the time.

Przedmiotem uwagi autorki są określenia Wincentego Pola wydobyte z przesłanej doń korespondencji. Bliżej przygląda się formom: dobrodziej, profesor, mistrz, wieszcz, ziomek. Korpus badań stanowiły listy (ogółem 98) skierowane do Wincentego Pola przez różnych nadawców w latach 18301872 zamieszczone przez Zbigniewa Sudolskiego w zbiorze: Listy z ziemi naszej. Korespondencja Wincentego Pola z lat 1826-1872 (s. 545-657). W zwrotach adresatywnych Wincenty Pol ukazywany jest m.in. jako ojciec narodu i wieszcz, twórca wielbiony czy wręcz ubóstwiany, szanowany profesor, potwierdzają one tezę Sudolskiego nt. istotnej roli twórcy Mohorta w „kształtowaniu kultury swoich czasów” (LZN, s. 546). Analizowane wyrażenia poświadczają zarazem bogactwo współczesnej Polowi etykiety. Człon podstawowy zwrotu adresatywnego wzbogacają liczne określenia towarzyszące, które powodują, że adresatywy z listów do Pola umieszczone na skali stopniowalnej grzeczności – są bardzo grzeczne. Jak się wydaje, często formuły te są próbą pogodzenia konwencji – pisania wedle zwyczaju – i szczerego uczucia nadawcy – pisania wedle serca.

The article deals with the terms of address and the titles in the speeches of the Pope John Paul II to the Diplomatic Corps accredited to the Holy See, in Polish and French versions. On the one hand, those speeches are a source of reflection; and, on the other hand, they are an interesting material for linguistic studies. One of the features of the terms of address which aim to conform to the ceremonial aspect of these meetings is the presence of solemn titles that exist in the both languages. In addition to honorary address terms which refer to honourable functions, e.g. Your Excellency or Ambassador, one can find universal titles, e.g. Ladies and Gentlemen, whose semantic value reflects their historical and cultural differences, and, at the same time, the differences in their use.

W artykule poruszona została kwestia zwrotów adresatywnych i tytułów w polskiej i francuskiej wersji przemówień Jana Pawła II do korpusu dyplomatycznego akredytowanego przy Stolicy Apostolskiej, które są zarówno źródłem inspirujących refleksji, jak też ciekawym materiałem badań językowych. Cechą charakterystyczną występujących w nich adresatywów jest dostosowanie się do ceremonialnego charakteru spotkania poprzez używanie uroczystych tytułów, obecnych w obu językach. Obok symbolicznych, honoryfikatywnych adresatywów nazywających pełnione zaszczytne funkcje, jak Ekscelencjo (Excellence), Panie Ambasadorze (Monsieur Ambassadeur) pojawiają się tytuły uniwersalne i standardowe jak Panie i Panowie (Mesdames et Messieurs), których semantyczne znaczenie odzwierciedla odmienne uwarunkowania historyczno-kulturowe, a tym samym różne ich zastosowanie.

L’article aborde la question des termes d’adresse et des titres, dans les versions polonaise et française, des discours de Jean-Paul II devant le corps diplomatique auprès du Vatican. Ces discours sont, d’une part, une source de réflexion et, d’autre part, un matériau intéressant pour des études linguistiques. L’une des caractéristiques des termes d’adresse visant à se conformer à l’aspect cérémoniel de ces rencontres est la présence de titres solennels existants dans les deux langues. En plus des termes d’adresse honorifiques se référant aux fonctions honorables comme Excellence, Monsieur Ambassadeur, on trouve des titres universels comme Mesdames et Messieurs, dont la valeur sémantique reflète les différences historiques et culturelles et, en même temps, les différences dans leur utilisation.

Artykuł dotyczy sposobów definiowania treści kulturowych w nauczaniu języka polskiego jako obcego. Są w nim zaproponowane strategie wprowadzania wiedzy kulturowej i wiedzy o kulturze w praktykę glottodydaktyczną. Wskazane jest (istotne zdaniem autora) rozróżnienie na:1. semantykę kulturową leksemów, zwrotów i wyrażeń;2. kulturę wypowiedzi i normę językową;3. treści i obszary kulturowe przekazywane cudzoziemcom za pośrednictwem nauczanego języka. Rozważania wpisują się w nurt dyskusji dotyczącej języka, którego nauczamy cudzoziemców. Przywoływane są w nim przykłady zaburzeń (zwłaszcza przesunięć) semantycznych, niebezpieczeństwa wynikające z prywatnych, a raczej pozalekcyjnych kontaktów językowych z jego naturalnymi użytkownikami. Zawarto również refleksję dotyczącą regionalizacji językowych i ich obecności w praktyce glottodydaktycznej.

This article discusses the modes of defining cultural content in teaching Polish as a foreign language. It proposes strategies for introducing cultural knowledge and knowledge about culture in the practice of teaching Polish as a non-native language. It seems appropriate to offer a division into: The cultural semantics of lexemes, set phrases and expressions; The culture (meaning the correct use) of expression and the linguistic norm; and Culture content and areas conveyed to foreigners through the language they are learning. This discussion fits the debate regarding the language which we teach to foreigners. In it, researchers have offered examples of semantic distortions (mostly shifts), and the dangers of private or rather extra-curricular linguistic contact with a language’s native users. It also carries reflections on linguistic regionalisation and its presence in the practice of teaching Polish as a non-native language.
