The authoress discusses contemporary research in the field of school librarianship conducted by the IFLA School Libraries and Resource Center Section and the International Association of School Librarianship (IASL) in the period of 2000-2008. The scope of research, conference and publishing activity of the organizations in question are presented. Attention is drawn to most frequent subjects: information literacy, information resources, position of libraries in various countries, library users' problems and needs. The article is concluded with the discussion of conditions for the transfer of research results into the practice of school librarianship.
