Analysis of consumption determinants is a source of information no entities making up the system of economic and social policy can neglect. Nowadays, knowledge about consumption is the required starting point for location decisions both within regions and the country as a whole. For enterprises it is the basis for drawing up development strategies meeting the needs of customers halfway. Importance of the knowledge about consumption keeps growing in Poland. It is ever greater with new business and social life entities emerging in the country, and numerous programmes and rules of market game being created and thus contributing to changes in consumption patterns. This is why ever more attention is paid to determinants, or the factors shaping the level and structure of consumption and contributing to its social and spatial differentiation. The analysis is usually carried out using one of the two approaches: the microeconomic one, focused on the individual customer, and the macroeconomic, embracing the nation as a whole.
