The article deals with essential issues concerning the environmental protection on both sides of the Polish-Belarus border. The Polish-Belarus borderland is essential to the natural system of Europe. This area encompasses the watershed between the Nioman and the Vistula rivers whose significance is of supranational character. The Polish-Belarus borderland is distinguished by a relatively low level of environmental pollution. Through this area leads the largest seasonal flight course of birds in Europe. Unquestionable value of these areas should determine mutual activities of both Polish and Belarus authorities. High supranational environmental, cultural and historical values of the borderland should give rise to a development of new forms of balanced tourism (farm tourism, ecotourism). Such activities should be, in the near future, one of the most important forms of business activities on both sides of the border. A prerequisite for this would be a tight co-operation between local governments and institutions appointed by state authorities with a view to achieve this target.
