The article analyzes the development in the international delimitation of maritime zones in the last years (2017–2023). In this period, a handful of important decisions of international courts and tribunals enriched the Internatinal Law of the Sea by the latest development of the classic three stage maritime delimitation introduced by the breakthrough decision Maritime Delimitation in the Black Sea (Romania v. Ukraine) (2009). The evolution of the international maritime delimitation kept going forward thanks to some very specific characteristics of some cases, namely the specific local geographical situation of coasts, which made a significant impact on the result of maritime delimitation. The development of the delimitation of the continental shelf beyond 200 nm has sparked a stronger controversy reflected by the dissenting opinions of several judges of the same international courts and tribunal who made them, but also by a more critical approach of the literature on this matter.
