This paper was written in the paradigm of cross-cultural psychology. It attempted to determine the extent of intergenerational similarity among Vietnamese families in their home country and in Poland in the case of obligations and conduct attributed to parents and children. It also tried to explain the impact of time spent in the host country on expectations of both the generations. Results show emigration effect manifesting itself in lower degree of intergenerational similarity as for obligations and conduct of both the generations as well as rigourism build-up in Poland especially in the case of parents who also idealized both themselves and children. Emigration exerts an impact on parental rigourism in Vietnamese families making it soar after their arrival in Poland and then go down with the course of time spent there. Therefore the families begin to imitate the pattern valid for families in Vietnam.
