Gulag is not only a prison for different social groups in Russian history but also a world where spiritual and religious thoughts have developed. In this essay, the author describes numerous poems by Gulag prisoners. Several are prayers to God for help and the possibility to escape from a critical situation. The prisoners do not pray to God only, but also to Holy Mary and guardian angels. besides these, the religious poems provide a powerful digest of Stalinist times.
