The status of grandparents has not been separately treated by Slovak ethnological literature. The article is dealing with this issue based on the Bratislava model. It shows the persistence of many traditional norms characterizing family relationships in the urban social environment, including those with grandparents. It's obvious, that the human potential of an urban community is on its shapes in close symbiosis with the rural background setting.
