The authoress describes benchmarking, more and more popular as a management technique in recent times. Information gathered and analysed in a benchmarking process might be very useful in the library management and are absolutely necessary for improving quality of its performance and services. It is important that such initiatives develop in the world librarianship and that librarians are very interested in setting up standards and indicators of functionality and quality.
