The author of the article analyses the dependencies between the development of organic farming in Poland and conditions of major importance. The development of organic farming in Poland so far has not been satisfactory although the number of organic farms and their acreage has nearly trebled over the last two years. The evaluation of factors decisive for the development of organic farming in individual voivodeships has indicated that the most important of these factors are the natural conditions. The development of organic farming is also determined by other conditions, especially economic ones. Due to numerous barriers that organic farming encounters in Poland it will probably remain a specific segment of the market of agricultural production, satisfying the needs of a definite group of buyers. However, without the state's financial assistance organic farming in Poland can hardly be expected to achieve a higher rate of development.
