An attempt to read and understand the work of Barbara Skarga presented in the form of a diary. Focusing on the issue of the portrait and on the portrait of the authoress of 'Slad i obecnosc' (Trace and Presence) makes it easier to reflect on the transformation of contemporary humanities. The form of a diary allows to account for one's own circumstances - as a witness and participant of processes of the 20th century.
