This article discusses the reform bills prepared by the Czartoryskis' courtly faction before the Seym of 1748. Although the details of the drafts to be tabled at the Boni ordinis Seym were veiled in secrecy, the new legislation was believed to include a majority voting system that would undermine the liberum veto. An analysis of the relevant documents confirms the existence of such plans. The reform bills were intended to improve the state of the economy and to find ways of financing the army, but it seems that the range of the reformers' objectives was much wider. The Familia, as the Czartoryski clan was usually dubbed, planned to introduce changes in Poland's political and economic system on a much larger scale than it was usually assumed by historians. The projects show the way of thinking of the leaders of the Familia and the position they took in current economic debates. Moreover, we can get a sense of the techniques of their work, their assumptions and the state of the their knowledge of the problems facing Poland. In this way we can learn more about the earlier phase of Poland's reforms in the 18th century and get a more balanced view of the Age of August III.
